Responsibilities

AV Meeting Support Technician

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 74,000 pilots at 43 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced AV Meeting Support Technician for our McLean, Virginia, office. The AV Meeting Support Technician keeps the Association’s various Information Technology (IT) and Audio/Visual (AV) systems operating at maximum potential while ensuring that applications are as responsive as possible to user departments. This position demands expertise in AV systems and hands-on live event production. Experience in live music production and/or large-scale corporate event production as an audio engineer or video engineer is a definite advantage.

Day-to-day, they continually monitor and respond to any performance-related problems and work on Association-wide projects involving the evaluation, modification, configuration, development, and/or enhancements of AV hardware and software. They evaluate the usage of audio-visual systems hardware and software products continually and recommend new or revised hardware and software requirements and/or additional staff training to maintain a cost-efficient architecture.

As well, they will provide primary support for, or operation of, the following:

  • Audio/Visual Systems
  • Office 365
  • Audio DSP Programming
  • Biamp Tesira platform
  • Crestron
  • Analog/Digital Audio Consoles
  • AirServer
  • Logitech Rally Plus
  • Cisco WebEx/Microsoft Teams/Zoom
  • Wireless Microphone Management

Recurrent responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring that staff are provided with accurate and current documentation on all systems of assigned responsibility; revising, implementing, and documenting new technical standards and procedures; and, installing, maintaining, and upgrading specific IT and AV systems, as well as training IT and other Association staff and pilot users on vendor-supplied hardware and software considered too technical for user development and training.

Key Responsibilities include SQL database administration and design and development, including security and optimization; SharePoint and Teams administration, including solutions collaboration; and, systems integration and collaboration, supporting streamlined data integrations, within a team of highly dedicated professionals.

Local, national, and international travel: 10 - 20 %.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area, e.g., Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering, or related field, from an accredited college or university required; master’s degree or completion of post-graduate courses in related field preferred; or the equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience and demonstrated expertise in systems integration, five (5) or more years strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with corporate AV systems, including Crestron hardware and programming, Biamp, Logitech, and AV programming, maintenance, and integration. At management discretion, additional equivalent experience and/or ALPA experience with proven expertise may be substituted for some of the above.
  • Software: Working knowledge of multiple versions of Windows desktop and MAC operating system software. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Hardware: Knowledge of corporate AV meeting systems and wireless networking preferred. Specific experience with analog/digital audio consoles, video switchers, PTZ cameras, and Cisco routers and switches a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for effective interaction with system users, i.e., internal staff, external contacts, and pilots.
  • Ability to test and troubleshoot software and work in a Windows or MAC-based environment. Must be a self-starter with professional maturity and sound judgment, capable of independent decision-making.
  • Must possess strong time management skills; be able to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment; and, transition easily between projects.
  • Previously demonstrated ability to perform at an outstanding level in lower-level positions.
  • Ability to understand and decipher information and documents of a technical nature.

Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move about the office and travel locally and nationally; international travel may be required infrequently. Also includes occasional bending, stooping, squatting, and/or pushing and pulling or moving, e.g., to pack, unpack, and/or move cases.

Occasionally required to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve binders, books, boxes, and files up to ten (10) pounds (lbs.). While on travel, may be responsible to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve luggage weighing as much as fifty (50) lbs. (Assistance may not always be available.)
