The City of Newport is seeking a individual to fill a limited duration temporary assignment in the Information Technology Department. Under supervision of the IT Director, the individual will perform a variety of recurring, well-defined tasks requiring occasional innovative problem-solving within guidelines and a scope.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. Eighteen months as an Information Technology Technician; OR two years of general information technology experience performing technical, analytical, or support tasks for computer systems or services; OR 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) from an accredited college or university including at least 15 semester units (or 22.5 quarter units) of information technology or closely related course work; OR any equivalent combination of experience and education.

When using education to meet minimum qualifications, education must include the specified information technology or closely related course work.

Physical Demands:

The person is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including the ability to frequently lift or move materials up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift or move materials up to 60 pounds. The position requires the ability to operate a motorized vehicle. Manual dexterity and coordination are required about 75% of the work period while operating such equipment as computers, keyboards, telephones, standard office equipment, maintenance equipment, and motorized vehicles. Extensive use of a keyboard. Visual acuity to read computer screens and printed documents. Physical exertion may be required to move heavy objects, crawl through tight spaces, and kneel in confined areas. Physical effort may be required to perform heavy manual labor in confined and cramped spaces and uncomfortable conditions, climb ladders, bend, reach, and stand for long periods of time.

Working Conditions/Work Environment:

Work location is primarily indoors where most work occurs under usual office working conditions. Outdoor work may involve exposure to dust, mud, uneven terrain, and varying and extreme weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to risk of physical harm from such hazards as lifting server equipment and monitors.
