General Job Summary:

As a Front End Engineer, your primary responsibility is to create and implement the visual and interactive elements of a website or application. You will work closely with designers and backend developers to ensure a seamless user experience, with particular emphasis on data-oriented designs and structures. Our tech stack includes React, React Native, and Go-lang, and experience with these is essential (with the exception of Go-lang).

General Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Developing User Interfaces: Utilize your expertise in React and React Native, along with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, to develop visually appealing, intuitive, and responsive user interfaces. Your role includes translating design mockups into functioning web pages or application screens that effectively visualize large quantities of data.
  2. Implementing Interactive Features: Add interactive elements to websites or applications, like forms, navigation menus, sliders, and animations. Use JavaScript frameworks, particularly React, to build these features and enhance user engagement.
  3. Cross-Browser and Device Compatibility: Ensure that websites and applications work consistently across different browsers and devices. Test and debug your code to address compatibility issues and optimize performance.
  4. Collaborating with Designers and Backend Developers: Work closely with designers to understand the visual aspects and user experience requirements of a project. Collaborate with backend developers to integrate frontend interfaces with server-side logic and APIs. The front-end developer plays a pivotal role in both understanding the design vision and realizing it in code, while also ensuring that it integrates smoothly with the backend systems and APIs. This role demands effective communication, teamwork, and a shared understanding of project goals, bridging the gap between design and server-side operations.
  5. Performance Optimization: Optimize websites or applications for speed and performance. Use techniques like code minification, caching, and image optimization to improve loading times and enhance user experience. Experience with Go-lang, known for its efficiency, is a plus in this role.
  6. Responsive Design: Create responsive layouts that adapt to different screen sizes and devices. Ensure that websites or applications are mobile-friendly and provide a consistent experience across various platforms.
  7. Accessibility: Have knowledge of web accessibility standards and guidelines. Ensure that websites or applications are accessible to users with disabilities, by implementing features such as alternative text for images, proper semantic markup, and keyboard navigation.
  8. Testing and Debugging: Conduct thorough testing and debugging to identify and fix issues in your code. Use browser developer tools and debugging techniques to ensure the functionality and stability of websites or applications.
  9. Staying Up-to-Date: Stay updated with the latest trends, tools, and best practices in web development. Continuously learn and improve your skills to deliver modern and efficient user interfaces.

Skills & Competencies

  1. Strong understanding of JavaScript, its quirks, and workarounds.
  2. Proficiency in React and React Native: Have a deep understanding of these JavaScript libraries and frameworks to develop user interfaces for web and mobile applications
  3. Proficient in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: These are the core technologies used in front-end development. Strong knowledge and expertise in writing clean, semantic HTML markup, CSS for styling, and JavaScript for interactivity are crucial
  4. Proficiency in TypeScript: Strong understanding and experience with TypeScript, a statically-typed superset of JavaScript that is frequently used in React & React Native development for more robust code and enhanced development productivity.
  5. Frameworks: Understanding of JavaScript frameworks, especially React and React Native. Familiarity with other frameworks is a plus
  6. Developer Tools and Software: Experience with version control systems like Git is essential. Also, understanding how to use various software development tools is a building block to a successful career
  7. Workplace Skills: In addition to understanding the technology that drives a website, having specific non-technical (or soft) skills can make you a better candidate for becoming a front-end developer. These include creativity, problem-solving skills, written and verbal communication skills, and teamwork
  8. Knowledge of Data & Data Structures: Given our focus on data-oriented solutions, familiarity with data structures and the ability to effectively visualize data is crucial.
  9. JavaScript Frameworks and Libraries: Familiarity with popular JavaScript frameworks and libraries like React, Angular, or Vue.js is highly beneficial. These frameworks enable you to build complex, interactive user interfaces efficiently.
  10. Knowledge of UI/UX Principles: Understanding of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) principles is valuable for creating visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces. Collaborating effectively with designers to translate their designs into functional code is essential.
  11. Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to analyze issues, find creative solutions, and debug code is an important part of frontend development. You should be able to troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise.
