Job Purpose and Summary

This position is responsible for supporting various data center, cloud technology and enterprise infrastructure components that are deployed at the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). The incumbent will support the complete life cycle of infrastructure components including design, installation, testing, maintenance, support and upgrade. At the lower-level, incumbents are expected to independently support moderately complex systems and components. Senior-level incumbents are expected to support highly complex systems and components which require independent judgment, project management skills and the ability to reconcile competing priorities. Senior-level incumbents lead and/or supervise lower-level staff.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Supports the complete life cycle of various data center, cloud technology and infrastructure components including, but not limited to; client hardware/software, server hardware/software, storage systems, backup/recovery systems and relational databases.

Monitors and provides support for systems that may be available to customers 24/7. Provides after-hours maintenance and administrative support as needed.

Creates and adheres to technical policies and procedures to preserve a stable and productive computing environment. Works to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, policies, procedures and service level agreements.

Acts as a customer service representative with internal and external users to provide technical advice/assistance. Responds to incidents and/or service requests.

Sets priorities appropriately to ensure that work outputs are timely and of the highest quality. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations.

Performs the necessary research, testing and deployment of patches/upgrades to firmware, software and hardware.

Designs, implements and tests enterprise system backup and recovery procedures.

Provides technical assistance to resolve issues or conflicting requirements and create cohesive technology roadmaps.

Utilizes critical thinking skills to perform effective infrastructure analysis to troubleshoot system issues.

Elicits information from employees to diagnose and troubleshoot problems associated with operating systems, enterprise systems or other infrastructure issues.

Analyzes data access, integration and storage requirements for enterprise system databases.

Conducts or attends meetings.

Uses situational awareness to anticipate and prevent accidents.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Nine (9) years of experience in at least two (2) of the following technologies:

  • Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems
  • Microsoft Active Directory/Active Directory Federated Services (ADFS)
  • Storage Area Networks
  • Relational Databases (Microsoft SQL preferred)
  • Cloud based infrastructure as a service (IaaS)
  • Server Virtualization (VMWare preferred)
  • Desktop Virtualization (VMWare Horizon preferred)
  • Enterprise Email – Microsoft Exchange/Office 365
  • System Management Software (Microsoft System Center preferred)

OR
Five (5) years of experience in at least two (2) of the above listed technologies AND a bachelor’s degree in business, computer science or information systems. Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be accepted.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Position demands include frequent speaking, writing and reading reports. Position requires frequent work at a computer utilizing various business programs and operating systems. Position may require occasional travel and/or fieldwork with exposure to roadway traffic. Incumbent may be required to work outside of normal business hours for assigned work assignments.

Office environment with low level of noise, adequate lighting and comfortable temperature. Some work may be required in equipment rooms, which can be noisy, crowded and/or dirty when compared to an office environment. Physical environment is generally safe, but safety equipment or precautions must be followed.
