About us

At Qblox, we operate at the frontier of the quantum revolution delivering advanced technologies needed to build Quantum Computers. This field is rapidly growing and will impact society on a global level. With a dedicated team of scientists, engineers and developers we are pushing quantum technology to support experimentalists worldwide with our scalable qubit control and readout equipment. Since 2019, Qblox has grown into a dynamic company employing 50+ innovative, international minds, all dedicated to the company’s mission. We celebrate equality and diversity. We are growing exponentially and welcome talented individuals who share our enthusiasm to make a difference. We’re striving to build a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, cultures, perspectives, experiences, and skills. If you are to join us, you can expect:

  • An international, interdisciplinary team of high-skilled physicists, engineers, designers and scientists with an open working culture
  • A high-curiosity, high-performance and invigorating team dynamic
  • Flexible working hours: hybrid working options and travel allowance for commute
  • 30 days annual leave and holiday allowance
  • Company-sponsored retreats and Friday lunches
  • Modern, open office with proximity to QuTech facilities, shared with Delft-based quantum startups
  • Competitive compensation and participation plan
  • Opportunities for international travel for conferences, partnerships and customer visits

As a spin-out of the Delft-based quantum technology institute, ’QuTech’ (a collaboration between the Delft University of Technology and TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research), our relationship with QuTech and other leading labs around the world enables us to implement the latest scientific insights and take a position up front in the worldwide race towards quantum computers.

Your mission

Qblox is looking for a Head of Engineering to lead the engineering of our control stacks for quantum computers and quantum networks. We are a deep tech scaleup company who’s mission it is to accelerate our customers in the worldwide race towards building practical quantum computers and quantum networks. To build practical quantum computers and quantum networks the field faces the following challenges:

  • Improving the quality of quantum bits (qubits) and operations,
  • Scaling up the number of qubits,
  • Harnessing algorithms with quantum error correction and error mitigation strategies.

Crucial in overcoming these challenges is the control stack that forms the interface between the quantum world and the classical world.

Qblox builds control stacks that combine unlevelled noise and drift performance, a low-latency arbitrary control flow and scalability up to 1000s of qubits. The control stack generates the analog pulses (from DC - 18 GHz) needed for the control and readout of qubits. These analog signals are generated from 1000s of parallel channels and driven by our proprietary sequence processor technology. Our products are used by R&D teams globally to accelerate the development of operational quantum computers and quantum networks. The technology we are developing is compatible with a multitude of quantum hardware (superconducting, spin, NV-centres, trapped ions, cold atoms).

We have internal development teams to design the (RF) circuits boards, embedded software, FPGA firmware, user facing software and test setups. At the moment, these teams report directly to the CTO. Since the company is growing fast, Qblox is looking for a head of engineering to take over the day-to-day management of the engineering efforts.

As a head of engineering you will:

  • Lead our teams of (embedded) software, electrical, FPGA and quantum engineers (~40 FTE, and rapidly growing),
  • Define, implement, document, and manage engineering processes across teams to allow to scale up the company further in the coming years,
  • Participate in defining our company strategy and roadmap,
  • Manage our engineering projects end-to-end, including (human) resource and timeline planning,
  • Prepare and manage the engineering department’s budget,
  • Hire the best engineers in the world and coordinate their training to make them even better,
  • Report directly to the CTO,

Your profile

For this role, we are looking for a candidate with:

  • Work experience as a head of engineering or in a similar senior-level position at an engineering department
  • Extensive experience with high-speed, mixed-signal (RF) electronics engineering
  • Good understanding of agile methodologies
  • Leadership abilities with a strategic mind
  • Excellent project management skills
  • BSc/MSc in Engineering, Computer Science or relevant field
