Job Purpose and Summary

This position is responsible for performing technical work in the administration, operation and monitoring of enterprise business systems for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). Incumbents monitor the operation, activity and performance of enterprise system components and operating systems, including troubleshooting and developing strategies to improve performance. Work is generally performed in a distributed environment within established practices, procedures and policies. Work is reviewed by a professional superior or designee for conformance with established goals, standards, operating procedures and best practices; overall performance; and the quality/effectiveness of services provided.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Participates in the research, design, testing, configuration, installation and maintenance of enterprise system component software, upgrades, service packs, patches, enhancements and third-party add-on software.
  • Establishes and maintains connections between various enterprise system components. Identifies and resolves problems with system connectivity.
  • Supports and maintains enterprise system client environments including production, quality assurance, development, sandbox and training environments.
  • Transports system configuration, customization and other program changes from the development environment to the quality assurance, training and production environments under the guidance of a higher-level administrator or manager.
  • Configures, schedules and monitors batch jobs to ensure the timely and reliable operation of systems using established procedures.
  • Installs, configures and troubleshoots problems with printers used with enterprise systems.
  • Monitors system logs, operating system statistics, work processes, spools and background jobs.
  • Creates, maintains and performs systems administration, enterprise component documentation and other various administrative tasks.
  • Participates in the design, implementation and testing of enterprise system backup, refresh, data masking and recovery procedures.
  • Provides technical support to technology infrastructure staff involving the planning and implementing of enterprise systems, monitoring, configuring and tuning of server, storage and operating systems.
  • Provides technical advice to functional and development teams on the design, use and performance of application components.
  • Responds to service requests that require systems administration activities and/or troubleshooting.
  • Adheres to technical policies and procedures to preserve a stable and productive computing environment.
  • Utilizes software and/or technology tools to perform job duties.
  • Uses situational awareness to anticipate and prevent accidents.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Nine (9) years of experience in information technology which includes a minimum of two (2) years of experience providing system administration services such as installing, updating, configuring, monitoring and tuning enterprise systems in at least one of the areas/environments listed below, or any combination thereof:

  • SAP Environment
  • ServiceNow
  • Microsoft Dynamics

OR

Five (5) years of experience in information technology which includes a minimum of two (2) years of experience providing system administration services such as installing, updating, configuring, monitoring and tuning enterprise systems in at least one of the areas/environments listed below, or any combination thereof:

  • SAP Environment
  • ServiceNow
  • Microsoft Dynamics

AND a bachelor’s degree in business administration or information technology.

Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be accepted.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Position demands include frequent speaking, writing and reading reports. Position requires frequent work at a computer utilizing business programs and PTC specific operating systems. Position may require occasional travel and/or fieldwork with exposure to roadway traffic. Occasionally works outside of normal business hours for assigned work assignments.

Office environment with low levels of noise, adequate lighting and comfortable temperature. Field environment may include exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable conditions. Physical environment is generally safe, but safety equipment or precautions must be followed in field conditions.
