The Chamber of Digital Commerce has embarked on an ambitious new phase of growth, and is looking for a strategic marketer and storyteller to change the narrative around crypto and blockchain and champion their use with key stakeholders. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success and experience in marketing at an early stage, fast growing organization or company, ideally with some government relations or trade association experience.

This is an incredible, unique opportunity to help change the narrative around crypto and blockchain, and wanting to help tell the story of how this technology is improving people’s lives.

Reporting to the CEO and Founder, the Vice President of Marketing will deepen and accelerate the mission of The Chamber of Digital Commerce by fueling awareness and understanding of the organization to key target audiences and decision-makers, growing membership and event attendance, advocating for digital assets through marketing with public policy makers, and establishing the Chamber as the leading voice on blockchain.

The ideal candidate is someone who “speaks crypto”, is passionate about the power of blockchain technology and web3, and eager to leverage their marketing experience and expertise to shape public perception and opinion of the industry. This individual is someone who is a strategic marketer, creative thinker, excellent communicator and storyteller, responsible for both setting the organization’s marketing and brand strategy and for implementing the strategy. They are able to execute and see projects through to completion. This person should be an intellectually curious, results-oriented problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth organization, and brings a collaborative, roll-up-your-sleeves approach to get things done.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Chamber leadership on all matters relating to marketing and communications and serve as a thought partner
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing plan to drive awareness and understanding of the Chamber, and increase membership and event attendance to help fuel revenue growth and reach organizational goals
  • Own the Chamber of Digital Commerce brand identity, ensuring visual integrity and message consistency in all public-facing communications, with the ability to rebrand the Chamber of Digital Commerce if needed
  • Develop a brand positioning statement, corresponding messaging and tone and voice for the Chamber
  • Lead on market research and insights projects to understand target audience motivations and barriers, mindsets and beliefs, and incorporate thinking into marketing and communications plans
  • Create and execute a strong storytelling and communications strategy, with nuanced messaging by audience that positions the Chamber as true thought leaders on crypto, blockchain and web3 to key stakeholders (including policymakers, crypto industry execs, financial industry execs, lobbyists, and key tech/system advisory consulting companies), and tells the story of how this technology is improving people’s lives in a very tangible way
  • Develop a thought leadership strategy for the Chamber and key executives
  • Grow followership of both the Chamber itself and of key executives representing the Chamber, and increase Chamber’s position as an authoritative, educational voice
  • Drive engagement of existing supporters and turn them into champions through all “owned” public-facing channels for the Chamber, including website, social, collateral, and e-mail / CRM
  • Produce and disseminate compelling content across all marketing channels, including the website, social, newsletters, blog, and collateral, understanding the differences between channels and what messages, stories, and content work best in each
  • Analyze data and evaluate success of marketing campaigns, bringing learnings in to improve strategies and execution
  • Partner with advertising firm and oversee execution of all advertising and media spending
  • Promote key Chamber reports on the industry and increase readership
  • Proactively identify which media opportunities to pursue, develop compelling story ideas and pitch materials, and secure high-value media placements in strategic media outlets; prepare talking points and materials for any interviews and ensure that earned media opportunities are maximized
  • Craft rapid-response statements to national and regional events and issues that affect Chamber members
  • Manage a small team of marketing and communications professionals

Technical Skills and Requirements:

  • Excellent storytelling and writing skills across a variety of platforms (digital, long-form, etc.)
  • Experience with content creation in different formats to compel people to action (e.g., graphic design, video production)
  • Experience with WordPress and ability to keep website up-to-date
  • Experience with CRM systems (Salesforce, Pardot) and ability to leverage them fully to ensure appropriate messaging targeting
  • Fluency in effective digital marketing (including all social media platforms, including LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube), and effective SEO and SEM strategies
  • Strategic thinker and executor, working both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience managing others, both directly and indirectly, including contractors and/or agencies
  • Passion for blockchain technology and ability to stay up-to-date with language and trends in the space
  • Experience leading marketing for a high-growth organization, ideally in the blockchain space; experience leading marketing for a trade or membership association a plus
  • Experience with public speaking and ability to represent the Chamber of Digital Commerce with members of the press, at events, with members and policy makers

Education and Experience

  • 8+ years of experience working in marketing, with significant experience with blockchain and/or cryptocurrency
  • A four-year college degree in a relevant field, completion of relevant training program, or commensurate work experience

This position is based out of our offices in Washington, D.C., and may involve occasional travel (5-10%).
