About the Department

The Information Technology Department is a Solution Provider that enables City Departments to deliver efficient and effective government. Our Tech Team is a fun and creative group where you’re empowered to make decisions, encouraged to learn, and expected to provide input on how we can improve services to our customers. The City of Everett employs 29 information technology professionals and an intern, who deliver services to 1,100+ City employees across 20 departments with 350+ software and application platforms along with networking and telecommunication infrastructures. About the Job

Under the direction of the IT Director or their designee, employees in this classification are responsible for data security, disaster recovery, firewall and web security, and change control management of the organization’s IT systems. Employees in this classification provide solutions to a variety of problems of advanced scope/complexity. Incumbents work on complex projects and provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Employees in this classification work under minimal supervision. Wide latitude for independent judgement and decision making is exercised. May act as lead or mentor over less experienced individuals.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires 4-6 years of related experience OR any combination of education, certification, and experience sufficient to provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a valid driver license at the date of hire, and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Driver License within 30 days of hire.
  • CompTIA IT Fundamentals and Security+ is highly desirable.
  • CompTIA CySA+ is highly desirable.
  • Microsoft Certified: Security Operations Analyst Associate and Microsoft Certified: Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals is highly desirable.
  • · Microsoft Certified: Information Protection Administrator Associate and Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Administrator Associate is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

  • · Must be able to respond to emergency call-outs, and perform work on weekends and holidays as required.
  • · Physical ability and knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as described in the job description, including the ability to lift and handle objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

EXAMINATION STEPS

  • The Supplemental Questionnaire is part of the application (weighed 30%). Answers must be detailed and will be blind rated.
  • Responses to the supplemental questionnaire will be individually reviewed and evaluated (weighted 30%).
  • Top-scoring applicants will be called to an oral panel interview (weighted 70%), tentatively scheduled for March 16, 2023.
  • All vacancies in this job class will be filled from the ranked Civil Service register established from the examination process for 12 months.
  • A passing grade of 70.00 or higher is required on all parts of the screening process for placement on the ranked Civil Service eligible register.
  • The examination process is designed to sample and measure the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Applicants claiming veterans’ preference points in accordance with RCW 41.04.010 as amended and meeting eligibility criteria must submit form DD214 or other official military separation documentation that clearly indicates an honorable discharge from military service on or before the date filing closes.
  • Extensive background checks will be conducted.
  • Hiring offers are contingent upon successful completion of a City-paid pre-employment physical.
  • New hires begin employment at the first step of the salary range.
