The Computing Services central IT department provides services that have strategic impact on university goals. Computing Services is searching for a Director of Network Services. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. The Director of Network Services will be responsible for development of and leadership for a roadmap and program that continuously improves the efficiency and quality of how we deliver wired and wireless network infrastructure services to the University. You will be a key collaborator on committees and with Computing Services’ leadership to charter, build and maintain the needed service offerings, funding model(s), resourcing plan, and technology roadmap for the program to help all constituents meet their Network requirements.
Your core responsibilities will include:
- Responsible for managing at least the Network Design, Network Operations, and Communications Cable Plant teams.
- Responsible for strategically and financially overseeing the Network Operations group that ensures the support, stability, performance, and overall operation of the campus wired and wireless network, a mission critical university utility. Additional responsibilities include direct oversight of the operationalization of new network service designs, including remote campus network operations and support.
- Direct oversight of Network Design engineers responsible for defining and designing the overall architecture and evolution of the campus wired and wireless network, as well as related services. Responsibilities include technical staff management and mentoring.
- Financial, strategic, and periodical tactical oversight of the Communications Cable Plant team responsible for the overall design, engineering, operation, and maintenance of the University’s communications cabling systems.
- Responsible for on campus and off campus Data Center and associated environmental needs. Coordinates with University with power and generator testing and ensures constant availability of Data Center resources.
- Closely collaborates with senior leadership on strategic and operational goals for the overall Network services area. Additionally collaborates with Computing Services and other campus IT leaders to:
- Understand network needs, current practices, and opportunities for improved user experiences.
- Create and maintain financially viable and sustainable models for service.
- Collaborate with Facilities teams across Campus to ensure cabling needs are met for all projects, and network resources are available in all areas across Campus.
- Maintain a deep knowledge of emerging trends, conduct pilot deployments of new network services, and seek ongoing feedback from users to improve the network experience.
- Evolve our operational set up including monitoring of essential network systems, definition of alerts and procedures.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree; Master’s Degree preferred
- 10-15 years IT project management and team leadership experience
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
