Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a project manager for an exciting data analytics project. This cross-functional data analytics project combines the work of Computing Services, Finance, the Office of the Vice Provost for Institutional Effectiveness and Planning and many University campus partners to identify university-level data needs and build leadership dashboards using data that spans academic and administrative departments. This will create a "one-stop-shop" for leaders to discover, share, and use valuable data to guide decisions and better understand the business of the university.

This role will be responsible for planning, execution, and delivery of the prioritized leadership dashboard projects as well as the many project and program dependencies. In this role, you will be responsible for managing multiple simultaneous dashboard projects and working closely with technology teams and campus partners on the execution and delivery of the University Leadership data and analytics project roadmap. You will be accountable for the day-to-day technical and programmatic leadership throughout a project's lifecycle from conception through development and implementation.

The ideal candidate will have solid project management skills, including attention to detail and the ability to distill complex concepts into meaningful tasks and achievements. Your success will hinge upon your ability to be engaging and proficient in leading and motivating teams to collective success. This includes being able to communicate the business and technology-related requirements that bring the essence of the business benefit and technology change to life.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Accountable for project planning for leadership dashboard projects, scheduling, and budget and risk assessment throughout the project cycle.
  • Coordinating milestone planning and execution.
  • Facilitates communications for project teams, sponsors and university constituents.
  • Schedules and leads meetings and conference calls on diverse topics (from budgets to project management to collaboration) between teams, taking well-organized and thoughtful minutes, and developing and following up on action items.
  • Identifies, documents and prioritizes scope changes and facilitates approval process(es).
  • Maintains and updates all project documents.
  • Partners with multi-departmental collaborators, technical managers, and vendors.
  • Facilitate requirements gathering within one or more business functional areas.
  • Sets and manages expectations with business partners, colleagues, cross-functional teams, and team members.
  • Has a shared accountability for project outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

You should demonstrate:

  • Proficiency with project management and project management software (e.g. Jira )
  • Experience managing complex projects and collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams
  • Experience working in a lead role on one or more projects required.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required
  • 5-8 years of relevant project management experience required
  • Or a combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated
  • Strong organization, planning, analytical, interpersonal, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Preferred: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Additional Information:

  • Work Posture: This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in office presence 3 days a week.
  • Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:00pm.
