Hiring Range: $36.06 - $38.14/hour (37.5hrs/wk)

The Town of Needham seeks a highly qualified individual for the position of Technology Support Technician in the Information Technology Center. Under the general supervision of the MIS Director and in coordination with the Network Manager, the position supports key technologies across the organization, helping to ensure efficient municipal operations. The nature of work requires that this role function primarily on-site.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, support, maintain and replace hardware, including but not limited to laptops, desktops, printers, peripherals, monitors, network attached devices, and software systems as designed
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems, identify hardware and software needed to provide solutions to problems, assist in hardware/software preventive maintenance, provide telephone, online, and face-to-face support to employees
  • Build, image and deploy desktop and laptop systems
  • Maintain inventory for all town-owned computers and peripheral hardware
  • Perform server and domain level tasks such as adding and removing accounts, maintaining mailboxes, resetting passwords and accounts; support network printers using print servers
  • Oversee and provision of smart phones, cell phones, tablets, and other mobile devices
  • Provide technical expertise and resources to managers, staff, and Town departments
  • Assist in responding promptly to support requests, and system problems across multiple Town buildings
  • Customization and adaptation of existing desktop and operating system programs to meet users’ requirements
  • Support remote users of the VPN client (Citrix) and any other related network access

Requirements

The following requirements may be substituted by any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field,
  • Four (4) years’ experience of technical and desktop support with a familiarity of a wide range of operating systems, hardware, software, and networking knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of operating system characteristics, capabilities, updating, service requirements of network and desktop systems
  • Solid command of desktop productivity application such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation programs, database, graphics suite, desktop publishing software, and email client
  • Experience with VPN and remote desktop management
  • Understanding of LAN/WAN/WiFi characteristics and concepts
  • Knowledge of active directory, O365, Azure
  • Experience with antivirus software, backup software and related procedures
  • Demonstrated experience with web browsers; drivers; BIOS; and patches
  • Ability to maintain a high-level customer service focus, exhibiting expertise, courtesy, timeliness, and professionalism
