Programmer Analyst II

Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a project of PHI, is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) supported clinical trials cooperative group, and the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research. Clinical research is conducted at more than 200 member institutions, which are leading children’s hospitals, universities, and cancer centers throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. COG’s over 9,000 multi-disciplinary cancer researchers, affiliated with the network of member institutions, provide access to state-of-the-art therapies and the collective expertise of world-renowned pediatric specialists to children with cancer, regardless of where they live. Today, more than 90% of 14,000 children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer each year in the US are cared for at Children’s Oncology Group member institutions.

Position Summary

The Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a National Cancer Institute (NCI) supported clinical trials group, is the world’s largest organization devoted exclusively to childhood and adolescent cancer research. The COG unites more than 9,000 experts in childhood cancer at more than 200 leading children’s hospitals, universities, and cancer centers across North America, Australia, and New Zealand in the fight against childhood cancer. An overarching principle of COG is to ensure that the organization’s structure is optimized to maximize the potential for research that improves the outcome for every successive generation of children with cancer.

The Programmer Analyst II will design, develop, troubleshoot, maintain, and update client/server software applications using Microsoft .NET technologies, Microsoft Visual Basic.NET, SQL Server, Transact SQL, HTML, ASP.NET, C# and other software tools. Participate in many phases of the software development life cycle: design, coding, debugging, testing, implementation and maintenance. Assignments typically require current knowledge of hardware, software, systems analysis techniques, and/or specialized knowledge in administrative functions or disciplines. The position requires excellent organizational and analytical skills. This position is assigned to a team, taking regular assignments from the Lead Programmer Analyst and Programmer Analyst III.

Pay: $37.47 to $46.43 per hour. The typical hiring range for this position is $37.47 to $46.43 per hour (with an approximate annualized salary of $77,939 to $96,566 based on 100% FTE). The starting wage is determined based on the candidate’s knowledge, skills and experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain client/server, database and web-based software applications to meet the group’s needs.
2. Work both independently and with project teams to analyze user needs and develop comprehensive project plans.
3. Participate in design and code reviews with other programmers and management.
4. Implement projects, document and unit-test projects.
5. Improve performance of existing applications.
6. Create new and extend existing operational documentation, technical specifications.
7. Provide support to production applications including application monitoring, problem troubleshooting and resolution, performance analysis and tuning to ensure maximum availability and reliability.
8. Create and deliver data driven reports.
9. Maintain current knowledge of software development tools as they relate to the business of Children’s Oncology Group.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• 3 years of experience in an application programming environment, including:
• Experience with Microsoft .NET technologies, Microsoft SQL, HTML, ASP.NET, XML, Microsoft Windows, and systems analysis techniques.
• Application development experience using ASP.NET, C#/VB.NET, Microsoft SQL, HTML, CSS is required.
• Experience in client/server software development and relational database design.
• Web application development experience using JQuery, Bootstrap, JSON, JavaScript-
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or substitute with four additional years of equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Ektron CMS and developing application using Ektron API is a plus
• Some knowledge of building a RESTful web service
• Ability to apply knowledge of computer hardware, software, and programming skills towards the development and completion of custom software applications.
• Strong interpersonal skills and strong communications skills.
• Willingness to take direction and subsequently complete projects independently.
• Knowledge of medical terminology a definite advantage.
