Essential Roles and Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced software engineer with a demonstrated history of success in content/publishing to join our dynamic and growing team at Whole30. You will be developing and maintaining Whole30's media, education, and eCommerce platforms to support all of our business lines, working with WordPress, Headless WordPress and Shopify, PHP, and other leading edge technologies. We're looking for someone with experience in hands-on development, leading design and architecture decisions, and ensuring that the design, application, and maintenance of software meets Whole30’s quality standards.

  • Collaborates with senior leadership team to establish business priorities and align on strategic goals
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders, partners and third-parties to co-develop a roadmap, driving products and features from concept to launch
  • Works with internal customers such as Marketing and Finance to turn data insights into products with actionable outcomes
  • Continuously reviews business needs, refines a prioritized backlog, outlines milestones and deliverables. Defines the MVP and identifies technology opportunities/risks
  • Builds and manages the software development roadmap, team objectives and desired results to support Whole30 strategic goals
  • Translates product roadmap into well defined product requirements: features, user stories and acceptance test criteria
  • Provide consistent, transparent progress on initiatives to senior leadership
  • Support customer success by ensuring responsiveness to inquiries, technical issues and software defects
  • Evaluates and integrates updates and new features to existing software and hardware where needed
  • Identify skills needed and intentionally develop and scale a technology team
  • A decisive leader that secures needed resources, removes blockers and supports team members in their growth

Necessary Skills & Competencies

  • Commitment to Whole30’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion commitments
  • Balance of technical knowledge and business acumen
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent industry experience preferred
  • 7+ years of experience in software architecture and development preferred
  • In-depth understanding of relevant languages including: PHP, JavaScript, SQL, and GraphQL
  • Demonstrated expertise in building and operating heavily customized WordPress sites. Headless WordPress is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing infrastructure in a high availability environment. DevOps expertise or experience managing DevOps.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing web properties under heavy traffic.
  • Robust understanding of site speed performance and Google Lighthouse.
  • Demonstrated capability in developing and delivering full-stack software solutions from ideation to sunsetting and everything in between.
  • Proven track record of managing project schedules, and deliverables, budget, and prioritization
  • Understanding of Google Workspace, end user hardware and mobile device management.
  • Understanding of edge workers (Cloudflare Workers, AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions).
  • Understanding of back office applications to support content management systems and customer relationship management systems.
  • Understanding of email deliverability with ability to troubleshoot issues. Experience working with DMARC policies and reporting.
