The CIO will lead a department of over 450 employees, oversee a biennium budget of $377 million, and ensure information technology services to a total of over 16,000 employees within 19 departments countywide. The next CIO will have strong business acumen and think strategically about finances, systems, and core functions of the Department. THE JOB/ IDEAL CANDIDATE
The CIO will play a large role in the implementation of the King County Technology Strategic Plan and interfacing with the customers of KCIT to understand their information technology needs. This leader will be accountable for managing the KCIT service requirements of the Executive Branch customers and separately elected agencies and overseeing complex budgets and information technology projects. The primary goal of this position will be to identify needs and solutions, solve problems, and make things happen by leveraging technology and resources while implementing strategies and guiding principles which align with the business needs. This leader will interface with internal leadership, elected officials, local and federal regulatory agencies, as well as County staff, and an informed and engaged constituency.
The CIO will work collaboratively and relate to a diverse group of people up and down the organization, effectively maneuvering complex situations. This person will come equipped with a wealth of management and leadership expertise. The successful candidate must be able to quickly read talent and effectively and equitably manage the creative process in others. They need to be steadfast in the face of adversity, meeting it head on and creating an aligned and sustained motion to move the organization forward. They will motivate others to be even more confident in the vision and where we are headed. The CIO will be required to display their intellectual horsepower while continuing to drive for results, presenting the unvarnished truth in an appropriate and helpful manner in line with the core values of the organization.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
- Five years or more of leadership experience demonstrating the ability to supervise professional staff with equal and fair treatment to include setting performance expectations, providing coaching and feedback, giving performance appraisals, and administering discipline
- Five years of experience in IT operations, application development, networking, or other IT discipline
Desired:
- Bachelors’ Degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, or an Engineering discipline
