POSITION SUMMARY

The Simons Foundation is seeking an experienced software engineer to contribute to HumanBase (humanbase.io), a novel, interactive web-based application, which is a relied upon resource for thousands of biologists and biomedical researchers worldwide.

The software engineer will tackle complex engineering challenges in handling and processing large collections of heterogeneous genomics datasets. As a member of our team, you will make a direct and lasting impact on the study of human genomics and disease.

In addition to software development, you will work collaboratively with scientists and researchers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the planning, design and development of genomics data pipelines for HumanBase
  • Deploy cutting-edge machine learning approaches to analyze heterogeneous biological data
  • Develop REST APIs for the web application
  • Contribute to defining software best practices, coding standards, and standardization of tools
  • Work collaboratively in a vibrant environment with colleagues from diverse technical fields
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science



Experience & Related Skills

  • At least five years of experience as a software engineer participating in the planning, design and development of software.
  • Experience with Python and C++
  • Experience collaborating daily with other key team members of different technical backgrounds
  • You are passionate about software engineering and have a strong interest in science
  • Experience with developing data processing pipelines in Python
  • Extensive experience with the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and associated tools (version control, deployment, etc.)
  • Experience developing REST APIs and clients
  • Experience with Linux and Docker
  • Experience processing high-volume data



OTHER BENEFICIAL EXPERIENCE

  • Familiarity with machine-learning principles
