The Oversight Board is a new body that makes binding and independent decisions about the most challenging content issues on Facebook and Instagram. The first members of the Board were announced in May 2020 and include Helle Thorning-Schmidt, former Prime Minister of Denmark, Tawakkol Karman, Nobel Peace Prize winner, Michael McConnell, Director of Stanford’s Constitutional Law Center, and many other diverse leaders and thinkers from around the world. The Board began accepting cases in October 2020.

The Oversight Board Administration is the team of full-time staff who supports Board Members in carrying out their duties. The Administration will have offices in London, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., and operate with a global scope.

Role and responsibilities

Joining the Oversight Board Administration is a chance to be part of an organization that will operate with the soul and pace of a start-up, but have a global impact from day one – leading on some of the most prominent and challenging issues facing the tech industry and society, but as part of a lean and nimble team.

As a key member of the Technology Team, the Technology Engineer will work diligently to provide human centric customer experience to all our organisation. Reporting to the Head of Cloud Infrastructure, the Technology Engineer will diagnose and troubleshoot software and hardware problems and help our users install applications and programs whilst ensuring a human centric approach. The Technology Engineer will be required to work on both tactical and strategic projects working closely with other areas of the Technology Team.

The Technology Engineer responsibilities include resolving network issues, configuring operating systems and using remote desktop connections to provide immediate support. The post holder will use email and chat applications to give users quick answers to simple IT issues. For more complex problems that may require nuanced instruction, users will be contacted via phone or video to provide clear, verbal or written instructions as well as technical manuals.

The Technology Engineer will be a natural helper, with an ability to explain technical details simply to support people with all ranges of technical ability. They will be a person our teams can trust, and they will be relied on to provide timely and accurate solutions to technical problems. The ideal candidate will be a user experience passionate Technology professional who is looking to join a fast-paced organisation, with the size and heart of a start-up and the technical challenges of a large enterprise.

The Technology Engineer will be self-analytical, emotionally intelligent and be comfortable in an environment where failure is accepted as a way to learn, they will be able to appreciate that not all problems can be solved on the first attempt. They we will be able to work in a no blame culture in support of all our people regardless of technical ability.

  • Working as part of the Technology Team, to be responsible for day to day support for Technology services.
  • Responding to requests for help from end users and other members of our team.
  • Setting up and installing new computers, networks and software.
  • Setting up user accounts and profiles.
  • Onboarding and Offboarding of members of the OSB.
  • Installing updates to software applications and systems.
  • Installing and configuring operating systems, anti-virus software and other applications such as Microsoft Office.
  • Diagnosing and fixing network problems, hardware or software faults.
  • Maintaining inventories of hardware and software.
  • Keeping a record of issues and faults along with solutions, for future reference.
  • Providing user training and developing support guides.
  • Continuous development and improvement for all process, technologies and solutions.
  • Work on tactical and strategic projects.
  • Occasionally flexible with working hours to ensure users have the support required and for the delivery of strategic projects.

  • System Administration
  • Experience with Windows 10 and Apple MacOS
  • Good understanding of Mac and Windows hardware
  • Knowledge of IOS, iPad and iPhones
  • Google Gsuite (Workplace)
  • Experience using Slack
  • Microsoft Office 365
  • Microsoft Azure AD
  • Creative mind-set, working towards continuous improvement
  • Good understanding on MFA and experience with Microsoft, Google or OKTA
  • Good understanding of cloud platforms and SaaS

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Networking experience (VPN, Web Proxy, LAN, WIFI)
  • Zoom
  • Salesforce
  • Understanding of IT Security
  • Device management experience (inTune & Jamf)
  • Web design experience
  • Interest in Devops
