Airplane is building a developer platform for internal tools, allowing better business software to be built more quickly.

Airplane allows users to convert scripts, SQL queries, REST APIs, and more into production-grade, internal apps / workflows for their teams. Our users run customer onboarding, support tooling, business analytics, and other operations from the Airplane platform.

About the role

You’ll directly contribute to the products and technology that help us meet our customers’ needs. Working closely with product and stakeholders, you’ll be building and scaling a team that will be tasked with making foundational improvements to our customer’s experience as well as driving growth. You’ll be responsible for driving technical strategy while working closely cross-functionally to set and execute the business and product roadmap. Airplane is a rapidly scaling company with multiple initiatives and products, and we’ll be leaning on you to influence the growth, scale, and strategy of new developments across our platform. What you’ll do

• Be responsible for growing and developing a team of talented and motivated engineers with high expectations around individual ownership and impact
• Set the direction of your team and prioritize work to ensure on-time deliverables and high-quality software
• Anticipate strategic and scaling-related challenges via thoughtful planning, both from a personnel and technical standpoint
• Participate in interviewing, hiring decisions, on-boarding, and mentoring of new engineers to make them productive members of your team
• Advise on and implement changes to our engineering processes and culture
• Aid strategic technical decision making
• Set an excellent example to the engineering team in all things, from decision making to work-life balance
• Gain trust through context sharing and clear communication

What we’re seeking

Must have

• Prior experience working in a fast-paced environment
• Have a minimum of 5 years of experience
• You have experience with backend technologies, frontend technologies, web development, and design
• US work authorization preferred, but can work with all candidates on a case by case basis
• You are familiar with JavaScript and modern backend
• From time to time, you enjoy playing a part in design, prototyping, wireframing, UI/UX, and user research
• We are looking for someone who can work remotely from the US, West Coast, or East Coast

Nice to have

• BS or MS in computer science, engineering, or other technical degrees
• From time to time, you enjoy playing a part in product management and road mapping
• You will ensure your team delivers extraordinary output
