We are looking for an experienced data engineer to join our team full-time (40+ hours per week) and long-term. We are a fast-growing company focused on collecting and analyzing professional sports data. You can work entirely from home or anywhere on the planet with a flexible schedule. Your time zone is not important.
You will use various methods to collect and transform raw data, perform quality control, enhance data quality, and merge data into combined datasets – data fusion tasks. You will also perform data scraping, parsing, and cleaning along with other engineers. Skills include familiarity with Python as well as knowledge of SQL Database design.
This role is not a management position, but you may manage a few contractors and you will work with other team members. You will report directly to the company's CTO.
Because the position is full-time, you cannot do work for another company, including contract work, other than finishing up any existing projects within 3-4 weeks after you start with us.
Requirements
• Previous experience as a data engineer or in a similar role
• Technical expertise with data models, data mining and scraping, and segmentation techniques
• Great numerical and analytical skills
• Knowledge of Python (other additional programming languages are a plus but Python is a requirement)
• Hands-on experience with SQL database design; knowledge of Microsoft Azure required
• Experience with real-time updating of databases
• Degree in Computer Science, IT, or a similar field is a plus; a Master’s degree is an extra plus
• Data engineering certifications are a plus
Responsibilities
• Identify opportunities for data acquisition
• Analyze and organize raw data
• Presenting data findings
• Explore ways to enhance data quality and reliability
• Combine raw information from different sources
• Build and maintain data systems and pipelines
• Store and analyze data using our database
• Set up quality control for data validation
• Build data processing tools
• Prepare data for prescriptive and predictive modeling
• Scrape, parse, and clean data
• Structure outputs given business needs and objectives
• Store and document your code in our repository
• Work together with data scientists and developers, including managing a few contractors
• Collaborate with experienced statisticians and other engineers
Pay and Benefits
• Pay is on a salary basis at US$50,000-80,000 per year, paid every two weeks, depending on experience
• Medical and other benefits provided on a reimbursement basis up to $500 per month
• Company provides 4 weeks of paid vacation per year
