Digital Business Analyst

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world (representing over 62,000 pilots at 38 U.S. and Canadian airlines) seeks an experienced Digital Business Analyst for our Tysons (McLean), Virginia office. The Business Analytics and Financial team is called upon to support many varied processes and technical areas across the Association. As such, it is crucial to have a central person who understands both the technical aspects of the areas supported as well as the functional. The Digital Business Analyst is a key position within the group, working closely with the Digital Strategy & Solutions section of the Communication's department and other department staff as well as IT's Digital Development and Applications Development teams to optimize the Association's digital presence and performance by analyzing data, defining process improvements, and identifying and correcting problems as they arise.

The Digital Business Analyst will support all application and digital development projects and processes including, but not limited to, content management system (CMS) websites; mobile applications; self-service web applications; and, ALPA's Data Action Report (DART) program, Work Request System (WRS), Group Management System (GMS), and Meeting/Events Requests system, Business Intelligence (BI) reporting included. They also provide support to other departments as required, e.g., organizing efforts or economic analyses of membership data. As such, they will routinely coordinate with management, department leads, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to define business processes and project requirements.

The successful candidate is an excellent communicator who is detail-oriented and consistently exercises their considerable skills in creativity, awareness, and understanding of their client/customer base.

Travel required: 5 - 10%.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area, e.g., Information Technology, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Applications Development, or related field, from an accredited college or university required; master's degree or completion of post-graduate courses in related field preferred; or, the equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • Four (4) years of related experience required, five (5) or more years strongly preferred. At management discretion, significant and in-depth, directly applicable, experience may be substituted for some of the above requirements.
  • Must possess exceptional time management skills; be able to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment; and, transition easily between multiple initiatives and projects.
  • Excellent written communication skills including technical writing.
  • Ability to interact professionally with executives, managers, and SMEs.
  • Understanding of systems engineering concepts.
  • Ability to develop business/use cases, experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to conduct cost/benefit analysis, experience preferred.
  • Understanding of data modeling techniques and methods.
  • Ability to design reporting structures for use with BI tools.
  • Working knowledge of database concepts and design, Microsoft SQL preferred.
  • Able to work flexible schedule on short notice as needed.
  • Must be a self-starter with professional maturity and sound judgment, capable of independent decision-making.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, for effective interaction with all levels of contacts, internal and external.
  • Software: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint required.

Occasionally required to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve binders, books, boxes, and files up to ten (10) pounds (lbs.). While on travel, could be responsible to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve luggage weighing as much as 50 lbs. (Assistance may not always be available.)
