About Form Energy
At Form Energy, we're building a world-class engineering culture of passionate and mission-driven people. We design and build hardware and software products to solve challenging problems with massive market impact, low-cost, multi-day energy storage systems that will enable reliable and fully renewable electric grids year-round.
Role Description:
We're in a phase of growth – join our team and make a difference. You'll be helping to position our breakthrough technology, accelerate our software adoption, and be an early member of a growing software engineering practice that directly impacts climate change.
Our teams consist of FormwareTM, our flagship software, and is an optimization and modeling product. Opsware is a suite of applications and tools for our hardware products' design, manufacturing, test, distribution, ops management, and fleet management. And, TechData builds the data pipelines to capture machine-generated data and interfaces for our battery technology.
This Software Engineer role will be part of our Formware Team. Early projects may include building a database of open data about the power grid, setting up infrastructure-as-code for constrained optimization algorithms, or moonlighting as a data analyst to discover opportunities to improve our analytics libraries. Additionally, the FormwareTM team is full-stack. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your software and data experience directly impacting climate change as part of a fast-growing team.
What You'll Do:
- Build an ecosystem of software tools that compute the value of multi-day energy storage for a deeply decarbonized power grid—CLIs, Python libraries, web tools, data pipelines, etc
- Collaborate with Product and other stakeholders to determine requirements for new features and support technical users
- Nerd out about PPAs, CCAs, IRPs, LMPs, LCOEs, and ELCCs with energy market experts (ok if you're excited to learn!)
- Advocate for software engineering best practices across the company and lead by example
- Act as a collaborative member of a distributed software engineering team
- Passion for our mission, sustainability, and climate change
What You'll Bring:
- Mid-to-senior level professional software engineering experience
- Experience developing data-intensive software systems in Python. Our stack also includes React, AWS, Snowflake, Dagster, CPLEX, and Pulumi—preference for candidates who are familiar with these (or similar).
- A pragmatic approach to problem-solving that blends good judgment, clear communication, follow-through, and creative use of resources
- Background in renewables, storage, or utilities, or strong desire to learn
Form Energy, where possible, embraces a digital work environment and supports onsite, hybrid, and remote types of work with office locations in Somerville, MA (Greater Boston), Berkeley, CA (San Francisco Bay Area), and Eighty Four, PA (Greater Pittsburgh).
