Baron Weather Inc., an industry-leading provider of weather data, display tools, modeling, and hardware solutions is seeking an enthusiastic software developer with significant system administration experience to work with an established team developing, maintaining and troubleshooting cloud-native applications.

This Huntsville, AL based company is seeking someone with programming experience coupled with a strong development & operations background to help grow our highly scalable data delivery platform. We offer a collaborative and flexible work environment and you will be working directly with other programmers in the software department.

We prefer someone local to Huntsville, AL but a 100% remote position is a possibility for the right candidate.

Temporarily Remote: We are all working remotely during COVID-19 and will return to an office environment when it is deemed safe.

Skills & Requirements


What you will be doing:

● deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting application services

● assisting us in managing and optimizing cloud-based infrastructure

● creating high-volume production (cloud-native) applications

● writing documentation

● planning and building monitoring systems, fail-over strategies, and disaster recovery plans

● monitoring server performance, stability, and health

● reviewing code from fellow developers


What you need for this job:

● know one programming language like the back of your hand (Python 3.x, C/C++)

● have a bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree

● good debugging and troubleshooting skills

● significant Linux experience

● experience with shell scripting (Bash, etc.)

● a technical mindset with great attention to detail: "what will happen if this breaks at 2AM

Saturday morning"

● strong work ethic

● ability to work both independently and collaboratively


It would be great if you:

● have experience working with Kubernetes, Amazon EKS

● have worked with Postgres or other relational databases (SQL), Redis

● are familiar with git and github

● have worked with Amazon AWS, Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure

● have worked with ElasticSearch

● have previously worked on REST APIs
