About the Role

Are you a Database Engineer looking to help build amazing features for the next ten million users on our security-oriented IoT platform? Your mission will be to maintain and optimize the core datasets and pipelines driving the vision of Brivo.

In this role you will also be expected to:

  • 24/7 support for production database environments to ensure the highest standards of availability, resilience, integrity, security and performance required by our business systems.
  • Manage, maintain and monitor database backups and disaster recovery processes and procedures.
  • Manage, maintain and monitor database security controls in accordance with company security policies.
  • Proactively monitor, tune and report on the performance of both the databases and the systems on which they run.
  • Manage and maintain ETL pipelines across multiple environments
  • Work with both Development and QA teams to support and assist in the development, testing and tuning of database applications.
  • Write scripts (both at the OS and Database levels) to automate repetitive or complex tasks.
  • Design, develop and maintain appropriate levels of documentation for the database environment, processes and procedures.

About You

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • 4+ years of Database Administration experience with RDBMS like Postgres, MySQL or SQL Server.
  • 1-2 years of experience using, managing, and deploying Aurora and/or RDS environments within AWS
  • Must be familiar with NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB or Cassandra.
  • Working knowledge of data streaming solutions such as Kafka or Kinesis
  • 2+ years of working knowledge of data warehouse technologies such as Snowflake or Amazon Redshift.
  • Must be familiar with how to leverage the core building blocks within AWS to properly secure SaaS applications (ex. Security Groups, S3, IAM, etc.)
  • Experience with common database administration tasks including backup and recovery, monitoring, security and data-related maintenance (PostgreSQL preferred)
  • In depth knowledge of concepts and experience writing SQL and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with Big Data concepts and tooling such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR
  • Ability to analyze, diagnose and tune database and query performance at all associated layers (database, network, server, disk).
  • Working experience managing Database schema versioning with automated tools like MyBatis, Flyway or Liquibase.
  • 2+ years experience writing, maintaining and documenting automation scripts in shell, Python, or other scripting languages

  • Working knowledge of programming languages (esp. Java, Javascript, Python, or PHP) and their associated ORM engines (ex. Hibernate, SQLAlchemy, mongoose)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with development teams in an Agile environment
  • Working knowledge of logging and monitoring tools such as Datadog, ELK, Splunk, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, etc.
  • Experience working in on-call rotation
