Lead Software Engineer

DSPolitical is hiring for a Lead Software Developer to further solidify DSPolitical as the leader in targeted advertising for Democratic and progressive digital campaigns by growing our presence in the market.

About the Position

The Lead Software Engineer is a senior technical contributor responsible for writing the most complex code, debugging the most complicated issues, and providing leadership throughout the software development process. This role will directly manage several other engineers while providing guidance and mentorship to the whole team. Specific duties may include the following:

• Develops new features and product offerings for our self-service and managed service platforms as a hands-on-keyboard coding resource.
• Mentors and assists other engineers as a core aspect of the role.
• Provides leadership to define and refine engineering standards and processes.
• Provides software architecture and other technical design guidance across major projects.
• Manages 1 - 4 other engineers.
• Provides last-line-of-defense technical support for maintenance and quality assurance issues in production.
• The Engineering team is small, highly collaborative, and flexible. The willingness and ability to learn new technologies and techniques and to share that knowledge with other team members is critical for success.

Essential Attributes & Experience

• 8+ years of professional experience in web application development.
• Strong commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and mentorship as a path to stronger software and teams.
• High-level expertise in at least one backend language with a strong preference for PHP or Python. Strong candidates will be considered regardless of language background.
• Proficiency in JavaScript with modern reactive frameworks, preferably Vue.js.
• Strong understanding of the nuances of building high-quality, maintainable code including logging and : automated testing.
• Preferred: Experience with Docker, AWS, CI/CD, Data Engineering.

Office Hours

Work hours are consistently 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday – Friday, with the expectation that evening and weekend work will be required as necessary. Due to COVID-19, this position is temporarily remote for the 2021 year.
