Role Summary:

As a Senior Frontend Software Engineer, you will work on and lead projects that directly impact our users and customers, allowing them to gain insight into their workflows in real time. Our UI is the main interface for users, and needs to be optimized and performant, designed to handle and visualize millions of data points simultaneously.

You will coordinate with the Prefect team, including our CTO and CEO, on new features and help Prefect implement our product roadmap. You will identify opportunities for improvement, resolve conflicts, track risks and dependencies, and champion successful outcomes. You will be a mentor and provide leadership to other members of the engineering team.

You will be an enthusiastic champion for user empathy across all our products. We expect our engineers to take on new challenges and guide our product and culture forward.

You will report to our amazing UI Team Lead, Jenny.

Expectations (you will):

• Work with both the UI team and broader engineering organization to achieve an inspiring web application for using our Core, Cloud, and Server products
• Guide our open source projects and engage with our community, and grow our internal user empathy by advocating for use cases
• Lead a inspired and winning culture and foster a collaborative working environmen
• Embody ownership: contribute ideas and advocate for them, while also preventing projects from failing
• Think through extreme edge cases without losing sight of providing a simple user experience

Qualifications (you must have):

• 5+ years experience working with JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks (Vue, React, Angular, Meteor, Ember, etc); we use Vue
• Knowledge of building scalable, modular user interfaces
• Experience optimizing web app performance
• Familiarity with visualizing complex data (bonus if you've used D3.js or a similar visualization library)
• Genuine and uncompromising user empathy in design and implementation
• Experience with common authentication methods such as OAuth or JSON Web Tokens.

Bonus Points (we’d like you to have):

• Experience with Python
• Familiarity with GraphQL APIs
• Experience contributing to open source projects
• Experience in a startup
• Experience with data engineering and data science workflows
• … and an understanding of how and when to "break the mold" when the best practice for Prefect deviates from an industry standard
