Want to use your Product Design expertise and love for music to impact over a million independent artists worldwide? Are you a generalist who can lead a product from concept to launch? Passionate about visual styling, front-end development, copywriting, customer research, and all things Product Design? If so, we would love for you to apply!

About DistroKid

DistroKid is a service for musicians that puts music into online stores & streaming services like Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Tidal, TikTok, YouTube, and more. We are looking for an experienced Product Designer to join our team as a full-time employee, as a member of our Artist Tools team. https://distrokid.com/

Why this role exists

DistroKid’s company mission is to help every artist that records music be more prolific.

The Artist Tools team is here to create tools and services that support the million-plus artists worldwide who use DistroKid to focus on what they love, which is creating music.

Some recent problems you might have worked on

  • Instagram and Youtube are powerful tools for artists to connect to their fans, but artists are not always equipped to create compelling content on their own, creating chores that they feel they have to do to be successful, but would rather not have to be in charge of.
  • Artists and labels want to meet each other, how can DistroKid help?
  • Artists need a simple way to share their music, but their fans are all on different streaming platforms. Creating these link-filled pages or customizing Instagram posts every time with individual links is no fun.

Some of the products you will work on will already have a defined and validated problem and vetted solution space, waiting for you and your partner PM to mold into a shippable product.

Other times, you will have a hand in shaping and defining brand new experiences. As a member of the DistroKid product team, we will always be learning from customer interviews, metric analysis, and figuring out new ways we can achieve the company mission of helping every artist that records music, be more prolific. As a leading member of this team, you will help improve the way artists around the world record, distribute, and promote their music.

Your team

You will work closely with a strong product manager, and 3-4 senior engineers, and 1-2 quality assurance teammates.

You will report to the Director of Product, with frequent access to senior leadership to collaborate on product iteration and discovery.

Required Experience:

  • 5+ years professional experience
  • Experience working on consumer-facing products at scale

Skills:

  • Your portfolio rocks! It has case studies of how you drive design through user empathy and insight, with examples of consumer-facing web or mobile applications that showcase your great visual taste and sensibilities
  • You write great copy and understand that copywriting is design
  • Can show delight and joy and humor in your designs.
  • Experience designing for viral hooks and viral engagement

Qualities:

  • Highly Collaborative
  • Supportive
  • Empathetic
  • Humble; this is an ego-free workplace

Extra credit:

  • You have a passion for music and a desire to support independent musicians
  • You’ve built, designed, or contributed to cool web/app projects in your free time

In the first 90-days on the job, you will:

  • Get familiar and comfortable with our company, teams, and systems including design, flows, talk to artists, user research, work with QA, etc.
  • Design and ship one meaningful outcome for DistroKid artists

In the first year, you will:

  • Work with the team to shape DistroKid’s products
  • Ship at least 3 major outcomes for DistroKid artists
