Global Science & Technology, Inc., a fast growing scientific and high technology firm, is seeking a Software Engineer to work in the Scientific Visualization Studio (SVS) at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD.

About the SVS:

The SVS is an outreach showcase for NASA and an information conduit for NASA Goddard’s Office of Communications. The SVS has created a framework of software tools enabling the creation of cinematic visualizations from observational (including satellite) and model data for a variety of audiences and platforms, including the hyperwall. The SVS maintains a web-available database of all visualizations produced that is an important component of making their products available to the world.

Position Summary:

Serve as the Website and Database Lead for NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio (SVS).

Primary Duties:

Include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Transition an existing website and user-input interface into the Django web framework.
  • Maintain/debug/test existing software related to the following topics: website, website content management system (CMS), hyperwall CMS, project management, YouTube channel management, social media coordination, movie generation, and website statistics.
  • Design/develop/deploy new software as requested by the SVS or its partners.
  • Coordinate new user account creation; train new users to use website and hyperwall CMSs.
  • Provide technical customer service; receive bug reports, feature requests, and questions from growing user base.
  • Ensure that the SVS database and website adhere to NASA’s security protocols.
  • Respond to public user inquiries regarding the website and its content.
  • Generate and maintain regular website statistic reports.
  • Actively curate the website to reduce broken links, typos, or other inaccuracies.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Master’s Degree (MS) in Computer Science or a related field; or five or more years related experience and/or training in the field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Django web framework.
  • Experience with C/C++ programming language.
  • Experience in programming web-based and desktop-based GUIs with a database back-end.
  • Experience with Mac and Windows operating systems.
  • Proficiency with Python programming language.
  • Proficiency with MySQL/relational databases.
  • Proficiency with HTML/CSS and JavaScript/jQuery/AJAX.
  • Proficiency in UNIX/LINUX operating systems.
  • Proficiency with bash scripting and command line usage.

Physical Qualification(s) Required:

  • Ability to use a computer.

Mental Qualification(s) Required:

  • Technical customer service skills, multitasking skills, ability to work independently or with a team as needed, and ability to prioritize workload based on customer and contract needs.

U.S. citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card holder) is required.
