About Equip:
Equip is a virtual program helping families recover from eating disorders at home with comprehensive, gold-standard care created by experts in the field and people in recovery. Equip’s five person care teams include dietitians, physicians, therapists, and mentors who deliver wrap-around support to provide families healing and lasting recovery.
We created Equip to increase access to evidence-based treatment for all people affected by eating disorders. About the role:
We're looking for a VP of Engineering to lead Equip’s engineering team through our next phase of growth. In this leadership role, you'll manage and execute on our engineering roadmap by designing, developing, and implementing applications and services. You will be responsible for growing and developing our engineering team. As the leader of the engineering team you will shape the culture of the team, consistently demonstrating empathy towards your users, internal stakeholders, and fellow engineers.
The right person will be a seasoned engineering leader who is experienced in building high performing teams and developing engineers. She/he/they prioritize well, communicate clearly, and understand how to drive a high level of focus and excellence with engineering teams. Candidates must have a proven record of building a culture centered on customer focus, efficient execution, high quality, rigorous testing, deep monitoring, and solid deployment practices.
Other Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead our overall Engineering organization and manage, coach, and support an agile and efficient team of engineers
- Build a high-performance culture that rewards results, and is optimized for retention and productivity.
- Rapidly scale the engineering organization by hiring and retaining exceptional talent and designing organizations, systems, and tools to help us scale effectively
- Bring a high level of technical expertise, guidance, and decision making to all areas of the organization. Establish and execute on our long term technical plans.
- Manage compliance/HIPAA and IT across the organization
- Work closely with Product and Design leadership on strategic planning, product development, and execution
- Lead with an agile mindset and a caring people focused orientation for our teams
- Ensure our internal engineering practices (e.g. code reviews, QA technology, etc) are appropriate for our scale, and maximizing our productivity
- Manage at scale; bring to bear the right balance of process and flexibility; measure what matters and drive improvements in quality, velocity, and impact
- Maintain high-velocity iteration in the face of increasing scale and complexity
Job requirements
Qualifications:
- 10+ years experience and 4+ years leadership experience (VP Eng, Sr Director or Director) at a startup, preferably during the rapid team and business scaling phase
- A strong engineering background including years of being in IC engineering roles
- Highly technical with expertise in infrastructure, architecture, and devops
- Demonstrated excellence in effectively scaling the engineering organization through hiring and organizational design
- Strong passion for the people and culture side of engineering organizations
- Passion for product excellence and experience working in organizations with strong collaboration between Engineering, Product, Design, and Business functions
- You love being part of a diverse team, building consensus, and establishing credibility
- BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience, MS/PhD
- Familiarity with HIPAA and how to build HIPAA-compliant platforms
- Experience with NodeJS, TypeScript and React
Bonus if you have the following:
- A masters degree in a computer science or engineering field
- Previous experience working in a healthtech startup
- Experience as an early engineering hire in a startup environment
