About Us

The Philadelphia Inquirer is a public benefit corporation owned by the nonprofit Lenfest Institute for Journalism. Together, we’re at the center of a critical mission to create a lasting future for ambitious, engaging, and useful local journalism. We’re doing this, in part, by deepening our connection with the communities we serve. Our integrated digital and print platforms are the Philadelphia region’s largest media network. We’re passionate about building a sustainable model for indispensable local journalism, and we take pride in finding diverse, dynamic, and talented individuals to help push our team forward.

Summary

The Senior Product Manager - Story Forms and Tools will be responsible for developing new presentations for our various forms of journalism, and for improving and simplifying the internal tools and processes the newsroom uses to publish those stories. You’ll work with our journalists, marketers, engineers and product designers on defining and building various experiences, from articles to long-form content to video stories to podcasts and newsletters. In collaboration with our interactive designers and engineers, you’ll help productize and automate portions of the production process, so that each innovation we create can be easily reused.

What You’ll Do

  • Identify new storytelling features for our site products, including tools, templates and integrations with 3rd party products.
  • Work alongside editors, reporters, and producers to learn their process, and identify ways to improve on workflow and tooling.
  • Lead cross-functional delivery squads — composed of designers, engineers, project managers, reporters, and other stakeholders — to build and iterate over new products and features.
  • Manage the prioritization of sprint work, clearly articulating the objectives and key results that orient your deciding factors.
  • Translate feature ideas into actionable product requirements and user stories.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends, competitive products, and new capabilities to inform your product roadmaps.
  • Contribute to grant proposals and status reporting for our philanthropic funders.
  • Monitor, analyze and report on objectives and key results to understand the impact of new features and to make informed decisions about how we grow our products.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager (or equivalent title) for digital applications. Experience with content management systems, workflows, and tools is a big plus.
  • Experience analyzing customer feedback, user research, and performance data to guide product feature development.
  • Working knowledge of Agile methodologies, process and principles, particularly when they’re useful and when you may want to deviate from them.
  • Strong communication, creative problem-solving, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels within an organization, including executive and C-level.
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic group environment and under deadline pressures.
  • A tireless belief in the value of local journalism and a desire to support The Inquirer’s mission to be the indispensable source of local news and information serving the diverse communities of the Philadelphia region.

Other Things to Know:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package including 401k matching
