DIRECTOR OF DIGITAL STRATEGY

The director of digital strategy will develop and implement a strategic plan for maximizing Colby’s digital impact and position the College as the leader across higher education in the use of digital communications tools. The successful candidate will envision, develop, and deliver reimagined online, video, and social media communications and engagement efforts highlighting Colby’s unique strengths and exciting momentum.

Responsible for supervising a social media and web team, the director will coordinate communications and outreach across a suite of digital platforms, study and track digital analytics, and work closely with colleagues across the College to improve digital communications and engagement with multiple audiences.

The director will serve as a strategic leader in using digital communications tools to elevate Colby’s reputation and strengthen relationships with its many stakeholders. The successful candidate will also coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to design, plan, and implement digital campaigns that support Colby’s distinctive strengths and priority initiatives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the development of a digital communications and marketing strategy for Colby, with clear objectives that support the strategic goals of the College
  • Create digital campaigns across multiple outreach platforms that will share and highlight the efforts and excellence, impact, and diversity of the Colby community
  • Design, develop, and execute online, video, and social media strategies that engage multiple audiences
  • Lead efforts to develop and integrate clear and consistent messages that advance Colby’s distinction
  • Coordinate digital communications across the College, managing multiple projects at any given time
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for communications that distinguish Colby and its unique story
  • Supervise a team of social media, web, and data and analytics professionals responsible for elevating the College through digital channels
  • Implement performance metrics, assessment tools, and emerging technologies to ensure continuous and consistent improvement of Colby’s digital presence
  • Utilize digital platforms and software programs to track, evaluate, and improve messaging and outreach
  • Monitor traffic and content interaction of audiences, with a particular focus on multi-platform engagement and consistency of experience
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience
  • At least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in creating and managing digital content
  • Experience in executing a range of communications and/or marketing initiatives successfully
  • Ability to use analytics to inform decisions; strong research and electronic communications skills, including interpretation of data and trends
  • Creative and strategic thought process with the drive to work independently as well as a track record of collaboration, innovation, and the ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community
  • Intellectual curiosity and relationship building skills to collect relevant and topical knowledge about trends, movements, and planning to help advance national and international traffic, translate concepts and data into digestible formats for a broad range of audiences, and capitalize on emerging opportunities
  • Excellent writing, editing, analytical, and strategy development skills including the ability to collect, review, synthesize, and present information across varied digital communications platforms
  • Extraordinary degree of self-motivation, dedication, commitment, and energy
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong and open communicator able to work across departmental teams to execute plans and maximize impact

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

The director will serve as part of the Office of Communications leadership team. This position has significant interaction with faculty, staff, students, and outside constituents.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
