The Rockefeller Foundation’s mission—unchanged since 1913—is to promote the well-being of humanity throughout the world. Together with partners and grantees, The Rockefeller Foundation strives to catalyze and scale transformative innovations, create unlikely partnerships that span sectors, and take risks others cannot.

In 2019, the Foundation launched a groundbreaking initiative focused on Precision Public Health that will leverage new digital tools, advanced analytics and AI machine learning. Our aim is to lead the global effort for precision public health by convening the right global partners, driving innovation, engaging the private sector, and developing public goods and best practices.

Reporting to the MD Innovation for Health, the Data Product Manager will help define and advance our innovation mission for precision public health. This is a true hybrid positon that requires data analytics expertise and a strong product skillset.

The Manager will leverage data science and design thinking to ideate and implement data products/features that will strengthen community health systems and improve health outcomes. Fundamental to our approach is the integration of disparate data sources – health and non-health data – to generate actionable insights that enhance workflows, drive behavior change, and accelerate impact. An important differentiator of our approach is that insights will primarily flow downward to the frontline into applications already in the field wherever possible. Our aim is to complement and enhance the existing technology ecosystem.

Sourcing, analyzing and utilizing disparate datasets to inform intuitive health applications will require exceptional analytical skills and creativity. Equally important is a strong collaborative spirit, as the role will interact with a broad range of stakeholders including Foundation leadership, data scientists, consultants, technology partners, academic researchers, government officials and international development specialists.

The Manager will also play a role in assessing and adapting private sector innovation for precision public health. Private sector innovation is not reaching the developing world fast enough, nor is it focused on applications that would improve lives of vulnerable and at risk populations. To bridge the digital divide and accelerate transfer of leading edge technologies, the Manager will help to identify commercially focused companies (early stage and established) with solutions that can be adapted for our use cases. We will collaborate with VCs, corporates, academia and tech firms directly to source promising solutions and define pathways for implementation.

Some travel is required. Our launch markets (“innovation labs”) are India and Uganda, where initial use cases focus on at-risk mothers and children excluded or underserved by current health systems. Over the next 10 years, our goal is to scale to 10+ countries and save the lives of 6m at-risk mothers and children.
