Director of Engineering

THE ROLE

We are seeking a Director of engineering with a proven technical background who will lead efforts to develop next-generation applications and tools for this rapidly expanding market. The position requires an individual who can develop a sound technology strategy, set the architecture direction, implement engineering best practices, and be a hands-on technologist. The candidate will oversee the in-house engineering staff as well as offshore teams and will need to demonstrate excellent management and communication skills. The candidate will need to partner with the product team and ultimately deliver code that meets the product specifications. Being a small company, the candidate will need to be flexible in its responsibilities and will be challenged in many areas with new and exciting technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide overall leadership on development efforts across the project portfolio.
• Manage and build a team of in-house and off-shore developers and QA.
• Successfully deliver the engineering tasks every sprint.
• Continuously improve development methodologies and evangelize best practices.
• Provide thought leadership to define and continuously refine a future-proof system architecture.
• Collaborate with product, user experience and internal stakeholders on all initiatives.
• Rapidly develop software prototypes to demonstrate functionality.
• Lead the evaluation of software platforms and applications.
• Bachelor’s in engineering or technical degree required; Master’s in engineering degree a plus.
• Strong entrepreneurial instincts and drive with a deep understanding of the start-up environment.
• Strong leadership and management skills.
• Proven track record of delivering complex projects on time, in scope, in budget.
• Deep understanding of the Agile / Scrum methodology and of Software Development Life Cycle.
• Demonstrated ability to manage mixed in-house and offshore engineering teams.
• Ability to multi-task and context switch across many deliverables.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast paced environment.
• Ability to quickly understand how to integrate new technologies across multiple products.
• Solid understanding of quality assurance testing.
• Pro-active and possess a hands-on, collaborative working style.
• Experienced at interfacing with Fortune 500 customers on product lifecycle.
• Excellent communication skills that bridge technology concepts with stakeholders/management
• Unquestioned personal and professional integrity.

 TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Expertise in full stack development, including C, C++, Java, NodeJS, React, Angular, XML, XSLT, HTML, CSS, JSON, JavaScript.
• Expertise in building and managing database systems, including NoSQL.
• Expertise in developing RESTful APIs and using Swagger.
• Expertise in code repository and management systems (Git or similar)
• Expertise in building scalable software and distributed systems.
• Expertise in mobile application development.
• Familiarity with Azure and AWS cloud infrastructure management
• Familiarity with applications for Machine Learning, STT, TTS, and ChatBot frameworks; i.e. DialogFlow, LUIS, etc.
• Familiarity with building secure software and security algorithms.
• Familiarity with the Unity Game Platform, Immersive Displays, and Thin Clients.
• Familiarity with XR presentation layers, i.e. AR, VR and Mixed Reality.
• Familiarity with AI, ML, GANs or other AI technologies.
