Menlo School is looking for a Senior Web Engineer who develops creative and innovative solutions that improve the lives of faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni. A core duty of this role is to write maintainable code from scratch to build user-friendly web applications or to connect third party cloud solutions to existing systems. The ideal candidate is not only a competent web engineer, but also a self-starter who thrives in an environment with minimal supervision, has a passion for learning, a willingness to grow, and knows the value of beautiful design. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Correct procedural, technical, and financial inefficiencies in day-to-day operations of the School by developing easy-to-use web applications.
  • Maintain and expand existing web applications used by various constituents of the School.
  • Manage and execute integration of homegrown and third party web applications into school operations.
  • Propose, develop, and execute creative and innovative technical approaches to solve a wide range of challenges faced by faculty, staff, students, parents, and alumni.
  • Provide training on newly integrated software systems to stakeholders and technology support staff.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with technology department colleagues to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Ensure security and maintain confidentiality of constituents’ personal data.
  • Administer databases used by web applications and find ways to programmatically retrieve data from student information system and Salesforce.
  • Continually improve visual and structural layout of public web presence through close collaboration with web design firm.
  • Strategize and execute technical decisions related to public web presence using LiveWhale CMS in collaboration with the School’s web team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five years of web development and/or software engineering experience required.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred, ideally in computer science or computer technology related major.
  • Experience building web applications using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, object oriented PHP, MySQL, and REST APIs required; familiarity with frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue preferred.
  • Must have strong grasp of security principles and how they apply to web applications.
  • Should possess sense for good visual design and have strong understanding of what makes UI/UX easy and friendly to users; experience with Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator preferred.
  • Experience with Git version control, bash scripting, and knowledge of basic web server maintenance preferred.
  • Must have creative problem-solving skills, a desire to be innovative, and a willingness to think outside the box.
  • Experience managing projects and ability to work under minimal supervision strongly preferred.
  • Must possess a collaborative nature, strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
