Job Description

Buzz Points® is looking for a passionate individual to lead the development work of our offshore Engineering teams in Columbia.  The Manager of Engineering will join our team and report to the CEO.

What you’ll do:

The Manager of Engineering will manage a team of offshore developers in an agile methodology focusing on all aspects of building high quality, scalable enterprise software. Practical, relevant experience effectively managing offshore software engineering teams to produce quality deliverables is critical for success in this position.

These teams build our enterprise software solutions that are used by our Financial Institution customers. We strive for performant, robust and scalable systems that excite our customers and you would work with Product as well as Engineering leadership to achieve those goals.

This position is a great role for someone with coding experience and a passion to move into more of a leadership / influencing position.

Main Responsibilities:

·       Partner with Product and Operations peers to build the roadmap, prioritize work, and fulfill the vision.

·       Be the Technical leader for our enterprise software products (lots to learn).

·       Collaborate with others to diagnose and resolve high priority issues with our products.

·       Manage the work of offshore development resources.

·       Provide architectural input and day-to-day coding guidance.

·       Partnership with onshore Engineering resource to ensure consistency, site resiliency and maintain standards.

·       Coordinate timing of projects with global teams to get the most effective use of all resources.

·       Some off-hour work may be necessary for software releases to the production software environment.

·       Conduct code reviews as necessary.

·       Communicate project status internally and externally with all stakeholders.

·       Work with Product Management to refine requirements.

·       Participate in all aspects of the agile process including, but not limited to story reviews, sprint planning, daily stand-ups and retrospectives.

·       Consistently strive to improve processes and communications.

·       Other initiatives will develop as needed.

What’s required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Experience with Ansible for configuration management and Terraform for infrastructure as code. Exposure to CICD, Build/Deployment pipelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Deployment experience using common AWS technologies like VPC, EC2 instances, Docker, and more.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with partner providers.
  • Detail-oriented, strong work ethic and high standard of excellence.
  • Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with strong interest in tackling diverse technical problems with a sense of urgency.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Experience with Quality Engineering practices (Automation preferred).
  • Experience with successful management of offshore teams.
  • Though not a development position, we expect the successful candidate to be able to offer technical guidance in the following areas:
    • Familiarity with HTML, CSS & JS (React) Familiarity with object oriented development, JIRA, Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, Postgres DB.
    • Familiarity with HTTP, REST, JSON, and XML. Experience with SQL and NoSQL DBs (Server and DynamoDB preferred).
    • Practical experience with source code configuration, versioning and promotion.
  • Agile software methodology experience.
  • Experience working in a SaaS model.
  • This position may be located here in Austin, Texas or a remote position depending on the candidate.

Pluses:

  • Understanding of the nuances of a Financial Services Institution (i.e. banking regulations, mechanisms of fee-based income versus not-interest income, payment mechanics, industry trends, etc.).
  • Familiarity with the rewards economy (social, local, mobile).
