Book of the Month is looking for a Product Manager to lead development and operations for our online product experience. This is a highly visible role that sits at the center of the product development process at a rapidly growing subscription ecommerce company.

In this position, you will be responsible for providing an exceptional online experience to our members, which includes managing site features through the product lifecycle, operating routine (but integral) processes, and owning the QA process for software releases. You will work closely with design and engineering to own the build-out new features for our consumer-facing applications as well the backend applications used internally. You will be supported by an Associate Product Manager who will report directly to you. Over time, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead the product design team and set the product roadmap alongside the executive team. 

About the role:

Product Development

  • Manage progress of and changes to the roadmap and partner closely with Product Design and Engineering to implement new features and ongoing improvements.
  • Collaborate closely with COO, CEO and stakeholders across departments to understand business needs and translate those needs into product specs.
  • Write clear, detailed product specification documents and ensure clear and frequent communication for company-wide alignment.
  • Scope and plan weekly sprints with Engineering and Design teams and own the JIRA board to track progress against sprint objectives.

Cycle Operations

  • Lead technical and operational process required to release our five new books on the 1st of each month -- which sometimes means late at night, on weekends, and over holidays.
  • Work closely with Member Services to triage technical difficulties during our periods highest traffic volume -- with a sense of extreme urgency.
  • Learn all aspects of the product inside and out and anticipate potential issues that releases may cause on the monthly cycle process.

QA and Releases

  • Oversee the QA process to ensure a high quality customer experience -- often taking on and executing QA yourself.
  • Manage weekly releases to production and serve as the approver for new features.
  • Manage the Associate Product Manager in the writing and management of detailed test cases for new features (and on-going operations).

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in a product-focused or analytical role.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a quantitative or technical discipline.
  • Expert level experience with product management tools (e.g., JIRA).
  • You love reading and books -- especially commercial fiction.
  • You care about your career -- you want to do something great and you are willing to put in the hard work to make it happen.
