About the Job:
TAPPI is the leading association for the paper, tissue and packaging industry. We are looking for a detail-oriented, team player who enjoys learning about technical information. The Coordinator is a key role within the Standards department and will support the Standards Manager. TAPPI Standards are developed for and by the industry which means our members and industry professionals help us develop our test methods (testing procedures) and Technical Information Papers (TIPs). These are guidelines and best practices for manufacturing pulp, paper, tissue, packaging and related products.
The Coordinator provides support on the review, maintenance, and preparation of Standards Department documentation. This team member interacts directly with TAPPI members and volunteers who participate in the review and development of Standards, TIPs and Useful Methods (UMs).
Responsibilities:
• Prepares drafts of new or existing Standards for balloting and supports the review of the overall balloting process of all TAPPI technical documents
• Updates all indexes and related records when there are Standards, TIPs or UMs ready for publication
• Assists with committee management including but not limited to participating in member group conference calls, onsite meetings, creating meeting agendas, recording minutes and action items, and preparing reports
• Provides support helping to maintain updated records on the status of all Standards, UMs and TIPs
• Assists with content development for TAPPI online community
• Communicates directly with TAPPI volunteers to build or maintain working groups (who develop Standards, UMs and TIPs)
• Identifies content and manages the layout of the Standards monthly newsletter
• Maintains departmental resources and directories
• Supports ISO TC 6 U.S. Technical Advisory Group activities
Skills and Knowledge:
• Highly organized, ability to handle multiple projects on detailed technical topics at once and adherence to deadlines, and results oriented
• Engineering degree or equivalent technical work experience in a technical field – preferred but not required
• Knowledge of Standards in general – their processes, principles, and procedures – a plus
• Ability to learn and follow procedures and guidelines
• Proficiency using technology (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint – required; and web-based tools, Social Media etc. – desired)
• Build trust, value others, foster innovation, collaborate with others, solve problem creatively and demonstrate high integrity
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
