The Digital Media team at HBO is growing as we prepare to bring our fans new programming across all genres throughout 2019.   With a focus on engagement, driving tune-in and marketing technology, we’re doing some new things to create innovative consumer experiences tied to programming and the HBO brand. As marketing becomes more reliant on data to reach consumers with targeted messaging, we are injecting new skills into our organization that will arm us with insights and creative intelligence about those who follow and love the stories we tell.
Our Consumer Marketing team has won numerous awards including Emmys, Cannes Lions, Webbys, Mosaic, PromaxBDA, Clios, and Golden Trailer awards.

THE ROLE 

Director, Digital Production (Emerging Technology)

The Emerging Tech Director of Production is responsible for working within our Digital Marketing team to implement and execute high-quality digital marketing activations in support of the HBO brand and programming. The individual in this role will lead projects from ideation to completion in the Consumer Marketing space on everything ranging from virtual reality to augmented reality to smart speaker voice skills and web/social-enabled chatbots.
 
This role reports to the VP of Digital Production.
 
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

Collaborate with all stakeholders both inside HBO Digital & Social Media as well as others throughout the broader WarnerMedia team to produce and deliver on activations by:

  • Working cross-functionally across showrunners, writers, designers, engineers and more to deliver/project manage multiple emerging technology-based marketing initiatives each year.
  • Being a key driver of assessment and onboarding of new technology for use in future marketing initiatives, with an eye towards big picture balance of all business needs.
  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams in the development of complex digital marketing initiatives from concept phase through launch and ongoing maintenance.
  • Driving end-to-end development on a number of current and next gen Emerging Tech platforms and systems, including, but not limited to:
    • virtual reality consoles (ex: HTC Vive, Oculus, Google Daydream, Samsung Gear, etc)
    • augmented reality platforms (ex: Apple ARKit, Google ARCore, Facebook AR Studio, Snapchat Lens Studio)
    • smart speaker voice skills (ex: Amazon Echo, Google Home)
    • chatbots across various web and social platforms
    • underlying VR/AR engines include Unreal and Unity
    • new technologies as deemed appropriate, including Magic Leap, AI-integrations to existing experiences, etc
  • Being a key representative of Digital & Social Media’s Emerging Technology initiatives, both to internal executives as well as external technology partners and key business leads.
  • Leading department-wide business development needs including contract negotiations and vendor assessments.
  • Assisting the Vice President of Digital Production in department-wide resource assignments and planning (including staffing and budget).
  • Overseeing a team of Digital Producers and Associate Producers in the day-to-day digital marketing initiatives of the brand.
  • Taking a lead role in one-on-one management of direct reports, including career development and talent retention efforts.
  • Ensuring all factors that govern project success deliver within time, cost and quality parameters, and managing and communicating risk throughout the process.

 
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE:

  • Excellent project management skills, preferably with a background in Agile.
  • Experienced at publishing top-tier VR/AR/Voice Skill activations with at least 6-8 years of relevant (i.e. content-rich) experiences. Mobile app development and production a must.
  • Self-directed, proactive, organized, efficient, detail-oriented, unassailable focus on the basics, tenacious (persistent about bringing open items/projects to closure), accountable, enthusiastic, able to lead, motivate and drive.
  • Ability to balance multiple, competing directions, identify and delegate tasks effectively and manage multiple projects successfully.
  • Strong communication (written, verbal, presentation) and influence-management skills essential; can collaborate effectively and efficiently.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and to deliver to budget.
