The System Administrator I is responsible for providing server support for all COG customers and vendors both internal and external. Uses knowledge of system operations to recommend and develop solutions to a variety of technical problems. Works in conjunction with the COG IT Operations Manager to accomplish various responsibilities, including determining hardware and software requirements; maintaining and supporting software packages and updating existing programs; ensuring hardware and software compatibility; helping to facilitate scalability and capacity planning, supporting the development of desktop and server security plans, security policies and procedures (SOPs), concepts of operations, and related documentation for the IT Operations Team.

As the Systems Administrator I, you will:

  • Provides operational support for Windows servers supporting production, security, training, disaster recovery, test, and development efforts.
  • Supports the maintenance of system backups as outlined in customer requirement agreements, and in the organization’s business continuity plan
  • Troubleshoots, rebuilds, recovers and tunes servers, desktops, laptops and virtual servers as well as any other support equipment. May need to perform RMAs sometimes. Escalates
  • Supports the development and presentation of precise plans to all proposed upgrades and modifications with risks evaluated and documented.
  • Provides design and operational guidance for Windows servers (Exchange Servers, SQL Server, IIS) supporting production, development, QA and business continuance environments.
  • Responsible for providing timely Tier 2 support for all COG users (staff and external) with excellent customer service for matters originating in desktop support ticketing system.
  • In conjunction with HR and desktop support responsible for preparing (imaging) new desktops and laptops for COG staff.
  • Works with the IT Operations team on larger, more complex projects and helps creation of project-wide scope, where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
  • Assists the IT Operations Manager in providing design and operational guidance for Windows servers (Exchange Servers, SQL Server, IIS) supporting production, development, QA and business continuance environments.
  • Maintains working knowledge of production level use of VMware within an IT infrastructure.
  • Support continuity of operations as a part of a 24×7 on-call rotation
  • All other duties as assigned

Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications.

  • B.S. in Computer Science or related field, or 4 years of equivalent comparable experience.
  • Microsoft MCSE certification preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a System Administrator role for Windows -based networks in a production environment.
  • 1-2 years Windows Server enterprise experience.
  • 1 year Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) administration.
  • 1-2 years Microsoft Exchange.
  • 1-2 years Active Directory administration.
  • 1 year with VEEAM Backup.
  • 1-2 year working with VMware and EMC SAN Storage in a production environment
  • 1-2 years’ experience with enterprise backup strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, reliability, effective follow-through and demonstrated project management skills in an IT technical environment.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills.
  • Solid Internet application experience (DNS, E-mail, HTTP, and FTP).
  • Solid TCP/IP skills.
  • LAN/Networking Knowledge.
  • Experience with VoIP telephony- Lync and Skype
  • Applied knowledge of debugging, product upgrade, subsystems and interfaces within system area of expertise.

Important Information:

  • This is a full time (40 hours/week) position based in Monrovia, CA.
  • This position is not eligible for telecommuting.
