To serve as a senior-level system administrator for a multi-tiered enterprise-level Linux/UNIX platform infrastructure both local to the University campus and within cloud resources.

Work with the university’s academic, research, and administrative communities to identify opportunities to provide support for solutions.

Assist in the design and implementation of processes involving the creation, installation, modification, integration, and configuration of Unix/Linux operating systems, hardware, application and utility software, and network services in support of this environment both locally and in the cloud.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

Minimum of 12 years of Unix/Linux operating system administration.

Minimum of 12 years with networked file systems, designing and integrating heterogeneous systems within a large, distributed computing environment.

 

Preferences

Ability to work independently on tasks and as part of a project team, taking tasks from conceptualization to completion.

In-depth knowledge of Unix/Linux (RedHat) operating system internals, client/server computing techniques, distributed systems management concepts, server virtualization, and all aspects of computer communications.

Fluency in Unix/Linux systems programming languages and tools (C, C++, Perl, Unix shells, Java, etc)

Familiarity with setting up and managing Kerberos, networked file systems and services.

Experience with configuring network hardware (HBAs, fiber switches, etc).

Ability to install, modify, integrate, and configure commercial and open source software applications and utilities and networked services.

Ability to integrate local and cloud resources to present a consistent infrastructure configuration framework that allows for the movement of workloads between the two. Strong problem solving skills.

Must work concurrently on multiple projects, adjust to occasional significant changes in priorities, and respond efficiently and effectively to emergency situations.

Effective written and verbal communication skills. Must assist, guide, and share information with technical and non-technical personnel.

 

Physical demands: May be required to lift and rack computing and storage equipment into data center racks and cabinets.

Must be able to occasionally work in a data center environment where the ambient air temperature is 64-72 degrees.

Available to work on weekends and holidays when necessary.
