BookBub is one of the fastest-growing (and profitable!) consumer tech startups in Boston. Millions of readers use BookBub every day to find great books, and our service helps thousands of leading publishers and authors drive sales and find new fans. We're looking to expand our team to launch new consumer-facing book discovery features, marketing tools for authors and publishers, and other web and mobile products that address the digital transformation of the publishing industry. About the position

BookBub is looking for an experienced leader to manage and grow the team that answers our most significant strategic and operational questions.  The person who fills this newly-created position will increase the organizational impact of a team of talented analysts, evolving the department to meet the needs of a rapidly-growing company.  This is a leadership role (VP or Sr. Director level, or equivalent) that will regularly interface with business leaders across the organization.

Here’s a sample of what someone can expect to accomplish in their first year in this position:

  • Take a nascent team and grow it in size and skill set to meet the needs of internal business and product groups in a dynamic environment
  • Lead and empower the team to answer the company’s most pressing strategic and analytical questions, the result of which will create significant value for the organization
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business and the industry, and proactively identify strategic or operational insights that help to guide the company’s efforts; work with product and business leaders to implement such changes
  • Collaborate with the tech team to ensure the organization has the analytic systems that allow it to measure critical success metrics and make efficient data-driven decisions
  • Raise the team’s profile and help to increase its organizational impact, empowering a wider part of the company to benefit from the team’s work

Qualifications

Ideal candidates for this position will have:

  • Related industry domain expertise: Years of experience in strategy and/or general business & product analysis work, ideally with significant experience in digital media and/or at tech startups
  • Excellent people management skills: Track record of building and running teams with significant time spent hiring, training, and developing strong teams
  • Superior general management skills: An ability to inspire and empower within a team and affect change across an entire organization
  • Excellent analytical instincts: Deep intellectual curiosity, a passion for data and problem solving, a strong belief in making data-driven decisions; an ability to supervise analysis, research, and modelling work and guide/check from a top-level, while not afraid to get into the details of a problem when necessary
  • Excellent communication skills: Great verbal communication and presentation skills; an ability to take complicated information and convincingly focus an audience on the most important takeaways
  • Knowledge of analytical tools: Experience with analytic tools potentially including spreadsheets, SQL, database visualization tools (e.g. Looker,Tableau); knowledge of the capabilities of Python or R is a plus
  • Relevant educational experience: An MBA, quantitative degree, or equivalent educational/professional experience preferred
