Business Development Professional- Venture Technology Group

Dentons US LLP is currently recruiting for a Business Development Professional for its Venture Technology Group (VTG) in our Venture Technology Centre in the Meatpacking District. This position will support and enhance the business development (BD) needs within this fast-paced technology and emerging growth marketplace, and will report to the Business Development Manager and work closely with the Practice Leader of the group.  

Operating as a boutique within a leading global firm, Dentons' VTG practice provides nimble, seasoned counsel to technology and life sciences companies and venture capital firms operating in Silicon Valley, New York and Boston, as well as in Toronto, London, Berlin, Moscow and Beijing. This role will get to work with a team who is passionate about sophisticated, efficient client service in a growing legal market.  

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist with the strategy and execution of client events, conferences, sponsorships and other events to promote the VTG practice and Dentons.

• Conduct market analysis, industry and competitive intelligence research reports. Develop information to assist lawyers with BD, relationship-building and brand awareness initiatives.

• Work with lawyers to identify market outreach and engagement strategies and measure return on investment of these activities. Drive sales and marketing campaigns. 

• Support lawyers in the development of individual strategic business plans in consultation with practice leadership.

• Identify and secure speaking engagements and other profile-raising events, including the development of related marketing materials. 

• Lead on budgeting and programming, as well as assessment of return on investment of expenses.

• Collaborate with BD team members and practice leadership on global initiatives.

• Provide support in the creation, preparation and coordination of RFPs/proposals/pitches, tailoring the information to respond to client needs; track results of same.

• Draft and update lawyer bios and other web content, including matters and awards/rankings.

• Work with lawyers and awards team to develop directory awards and rankings submissions.

• Proactively track deals and maintain practice marketing materials and collateral.  Submit new matters to ranking agencies for league tables and other credit/acknowledgement.

• Regularly work with PR team to promote lawyers’ matters and publications.

• Assist with production of client alerts and event invitations; manage client and prospect mailing lists.

• Other duties as may be assigned to fully meet the requirements of the position.

Experience & Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 3-4 years previous BD experience.  Marketing experience in an emerging growth technology sector company, law firm, consulting firm for financial institution is preferred.

• The ideal candidate will be a results-oriented, self-motivated individual with the demonstrated ability to prioritize, juggle multiple assignments and function as part of a cohesive team.

• Strong communication and presentation skills, with an attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment.

• Passion for exciting, cutting-edge business technologies and processes.

• Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and social media.

• Some travel to our local offices in Midtown and Short Hills would be required for internal meetings and events; some travel outside of the metro New York area may be necessary from time to time.
