Position Purpose

Advicent is looking for a talented and motivated Development Manager to join our team. You will participate in an agile environment, overseeing team leads and developers tasked with developing and supporting our web-based applications.  The ideal candidate will combine their leadership acumen and technical expertise to manage a high-performing development team. 

What you’re accountable for:

  • Collaborate with other leaders to ensure a cross-functional team is in place to maintain, enhance, and add onto Advicent’s product suite
  • Consult with peers and upper management to establish and update company and department policies
  • Contribute to strategic roadmap planning and estimating processes, including the evaluation of new technologies and third-parties, as well as the ability to forecast resource needs and project costs
  • Continually improve and promote department standards, including application security standards, coding standards, and other best practices
  • Ensure company policies and standards are observed
  • Manage the design, development, testing, documentation, and implementation of Advicent software applications
  • Mentor direct reports and other less experienced employees on best practices and professional standards
  • Oversee large development programs and projects, ensuring they are delivered on-time and on-budget
  • Perform periodic performance reviews, and proactively manage the performance of the team
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance
  • Regularly meet with direct reports to set and monitor goals for professional development
  • Resource management, ensuring the right resources are assigned to open project needs
  • Research and experiment with new technologies, tools and development techniques
  • Serve as primary owner and escalation point for assigned applications
  • Support product deployments, including but not limited to coordination, training, documentation, and troubleshooting
  • Understand and participate in Advicent's Agile development lifecycle
  • Understand our products’, customers’ and partners’ needs in the Financial Planning industry

What skills are required:

  • B.S. in information systems technology or computer science, and 3-5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced understanding of web-based software application design and programming.
  • Advanced understanding of software development concepts, best practices, and methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience in building and supporting web-based software applications.
  • Ability to understand our products’, customers’ and partners’ needs in the Financial Planning industry.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and provide strategic input.
  • Occasional availability for after-hours or weekend production rollouts will be required.
  • A strong desire to learn and grow, both personally and professionally in ways that will enhance job performance.
  • A proactive style with the ability to follow through on commitments and understand the importance of deadlines.
  • Experience with implementing and managing change (process improvements) in a software development organization
  • Experience highering, mentoring, and developing all levels of software development professionals
