Director of Technology Infrastructure

Job Code: DTI - CB

This leadership role is accountable for IT infrastructure and operations (I&O) in the enterprise. The head of I&O is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of all third-party and internally managed technology systems used to support and optimize business operations across the enterprise. This is through the management and orchestration of people, products, providers, and processes.

This individual will have strategic technical infrastructure experience, strong project management acumen, and excellent vendor management skills, in addition to a superior, service-oriented approach. This individual is responsible for operational and service management processes to ensure that quality, efficiency and agility goals are achieved. As a member of the technology senior leadership team, the role contributes to the development and execution of the enterprise-wide technology strategy. It also ensures its alignment with the enterprise's business strategy and the delivery of capabilities required to achieve business success.

Special emphasis for this position is on instilling a culture of quick decision-making and execution on all small- and middle-size products while maintaining a culture of careful and considered deliberation on very large system changes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·           Sets the mission and vision of the I&O organization to foster a business-oriented culture and mindset driven by continual service-improvement techniques.

·           Leads the development of the I&O service strategy and technical road map, and ensures its integration with the overall IT and enterprise strategic plans.

·           Works with the technology senior leadership team and Program management on the governance required to prioritize resources, including budget.

·           Acts as a trusted advisor, and builds and maintains relationships with other technology leaders and business executives to develop a clear understanding of business needs. Ensures cost-effective delivery of technology services to meet those needs, and is able to respond with the agility required to address changing business priorities.

·           Creates an I&O value map by linking targeted business outcomes with the future-state business capabilities required to achieve them, correlated with the I&O initiatives that will deliver them.

·           Develops and controls the annual operating expenditure (opex) and capital expenditure (capex) budgets for I&O to ensure that they are consistent with the overall strategic objectives of IT and the enterprise, and are within plan.

·           Leverages influencing and negotiation skills across technology and the enterprise to enable cost-effective and innovative shared solutions in the achievement of business goals.

·           Participates in the assessment of external and internal technology capabilities required to achieve desired competitive positioning.

·           Remains current on new technologies and platforms — including artificial intelligence (AI) and edge computing — and provides direction on what emerging technologies should be assimilated, integrated and introduced in I&O. This will ensure that technology capabilities respond to the needs of the enterprise's business strategy.

·           Champions I&O involvement in the technology organization's innovation efforts and its role in experimenting with new solutions to take advantage of business opportunities. Works with other business units to help them understand and automate their processes.

·           Provides strategic direction and oversight for the design, development, operation and support of technology systems that fulfill the needs of the business, including the full life cycle of technical architecture, infrastructure engineering, infrastructure operations and technology service support.

·           Directs the development of an I&O sourcing strategy and provides executive oversight for strategic vendor and partner relationship management.

·           Works with HR and the technology leadership team to develop an I&O "talent strategy" that aligns with the current and future business and technology strategy. Continually looks for leading-edge and innovative solutions to the recruitment, development and retention of the I&O workforce.

·           Forecasts future skill and competency needs to acquire and develop a technology workforce. Requires an appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills and competencies that balance between growing the agility required to achieve digital business objectives and ensuring that the core technology functions are reliable, stable and efficient.

·           Manages the growing maturity of the organization by introducing revisions to the operating model that accommodate the move from a project-driven to a product family, service-centric environment.

·           Drives the adoption and commitment to continual service improvement.

·           Adopts new techniques and practices, such as Agile and service integration and management (SIAM), to complement the change in focus as the organization's maturity develops.

·           Serves on technology-planning and policymaking committees; helps drive the development of enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure that I&O delivers value to the enterprise.
