NC State University seeks a Director of Social Media to manage its Social Media Strategy Hub. The Social Media Strategy Hub is an integrated marketing and communications center that brings together social media staff and technology to provide resources for real-time issues management and for developing and executing data-driven decisions for marketing and communications initiatives.
The Director of Social Media must be well-versed in all aspects of social media technology, industry and theory to analyze data, creating initiatives and content, and building and facilitating online communities. In addition, the director will supervise a staff of up to 10 people serving the social media needs of the general university as well as individual colleges, divisions and other entities across campus. The director of social media will be a key player in bringing together these many decentralized entities to drive integrated marketing strategy within NC State’s communications infrastructure.
NC State manages relationships with a broad range of stakeholders through social media, including current and prospective students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, businesses, corporations, regulatory entities, research communities and legislators.
Responsibilities:
Working with senior-level administrators across campus, conceptualize and oversee the development and initiation of social media strategies and tactics to advance the brand and strategic goals of NC State University
Oversee Social Media staff’s day-to-day activities
Become a champion for effective, collaborative social media use across campus at NC State by establishing policies and best practices, building tools and resources, and by providing leadership of collaborative social media committees and other groups on campus.
Become an advocate for NC State in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate.
Demonstrate ability to map out marketing strategy and then drive that strategy proven by testing and metrics.
Develop a strategy and implement a proactive process for capturing positive customer online comments. Monitor online ratings and respond accordingly.
Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design and strategy.
Identify threats and opportunities in user-generated content surrounding the university. Report notable threats to appropriate management.
Analyze campaigns and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising the Social Media campaigns.
Monitor effective benchmarks (best practices) for measuring the impact of Social Media campaigns. Analyze, review, and report on effectiveness of campaigns in an effort to maximize results.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Five years’ experience in professional social media setting
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the tenets of traditional marketing, content marketing theory and application, sourcing and managing content development and publishing.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of Social Media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Google+Local, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.
Possesses great ability to identify potential negative or crisis situation via social media and apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues.
Is a team player with the confidence to take the lead and guide other employees when necessary. (ie: content development, creation and editing of content, and online reputation management).
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Demonstrates winning Social Customer Service techniques.
Experience analyzing social media data, trends and software developments to develop new strategies and initiatives.
Ability to jump from the creative side of marketing to analytical side to demonstrate why ideas are analytically sound.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing from an accredited university.
Experience working in the higher education social media and blogging ecosystem.
Supervisory experience in a social media enterprise.
Displays ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and video format.
Working knowledge of NUVI social media listening software
Possesses functional knowledge of WordPress.
