1. Apple confirms iPhone 8 event will take place September 12

Apple sent out invites for its annual iPhone event, which is taking place on September 12 at its new Cupertino HQ, at the Steve Jobs Theater it built there specifically to host special events. We're expecting Apple to reveal a brand new iPhone with a nearly bezel-free design. There are also reports that Apple is ditching the button to make room for the larger screen.

2. Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi accepts Uber CEO position

Uber’s search for a replacement for its former co-founder CEO Travis Kalanick has reached its conclusion. At an all-hands meeting, Uber employees met their new leader: Dara Khosrowshahi, the former CEO of Expedia. Khosrowshahi discussed a number of things, including how Uber should go public within the next 18 to 36 months and how he has the support Travis Kalanick. Khosrowshahi’s official first day is Tuesday, Sept. 5, but he still gave employees a taste of what to expect. For starters, his plan is to “pay the bills,” focus on the core businesses and “take big shots” in building for the future. He also talked about the importance of culture, and how people feel about their team determines how happy they are.

3. Previewing the first wave of AR apps coming to the iPhone

5. Amazon's $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods deal closes

Whole Foods just got cheaper! Prices were lowered on a selection of best-selling grocery staples across Whole Foods locations as a result of the new deal. Amazon also noted that Amazon Prime will eventually be integrated into Whole Foods point-of-sale system, allowing Prime members to receive special savings and other in-store benefits. But what effect will the deal have on Amazon's bottom line? Alex Wilhelm dives into the numbers here.

6. The first ICO unicorns are here

It was bound to happen, but a lot of people are surprised by how quickly it happened. This week, both OmiseGO (OMG) and Qtum passed a $1 billion market cap, according to coinmarketcap.com, a site that tracks the value of crypto tokens. They became the first ERC20 tokens — subtokens that are built on the Ethereum network and sold to investors via an ICO — to pass the unicorn mark based on the total value of coins that have been distributed.

That's all for this week. Have a great Labor Day weekend!
