The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC or Commission) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The Commission’s mandate is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices and to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in capital markets.

OSC LaunchPad is a pilot initiative of the OSC. The goal of OSC LaunchPad is to modernize regulation to support financial technology (fintech) innovation. OSC LaunchPad is a dedicated team with three main focuses:

1) Engage with the fintech community to better understand its needs and help it understand the regulatory landscape;

2) Offer the opportunity for businesses to request direct support in navigating the requirements and potentially provide flexibility in how they meet their obligations; and

3) Take learnings from working with innovative businesses and apply them to help modernize regulation for the benefit of similar businesses.

OSC LaunchPad consists of a core team, with an extended team made up of dedicated staff from each of the operational branches (Compliance and Registrant Regulation, Corporate Finance, Investment Funds and Structured Products, Derivatives, Market Regulation).

Summary:
OSC LaunchPad is currently hiring an individual for a 1 (one) year contract opportunity, as Fintech Coordinator, who has a keen interest in new technologies in the financial services industry and direct experience in technology and social media in the fintech industry. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals looking for challenging and innovative work in the securities regulatory environment. This role is responsible for project management and event coordination, as well as providing support to the LaunchPad team and the mandate of the initiative. You will enhance your understanding of how technology is being applied to the operations of market participants and gain valuable regulatory experience working alongside fellow professionals in an open and collegial environment.

Key Responsibilities:
As the Fintech Coordinator, and as a member of the core OSC LaunchPad team, you will draw upon your experience in the fintech industry to review the requests for support to OSC LaunchPad and coordinate the team and meetings. You will be responsible for keeping the OSC LaunchPad website up-to-date and relevant to innovative businesses, maintaining stats and information required for reporting to executive management, managing and hosting events, and responding to inquiries to OSC LaunchPad. You will work closely with the core and extended team to analyze new trends and provide insight to the team about emerging technologies. You will provide support to the Chief and core LaunchPad team, including preparing presentations and organizing events. You will also engage directly with members of the fintech community at both OSC and external events.

You Have:
As the ideal candidate, you have an undergraduate degree in Business and Technology or Computer Science. Operational experience in the securities or financial services industry would be a strong asset. This is complemented by your ability to build positive working relationships to meet common goals. You have excellent skills in PowerPoint, Excel and social media engagement tools to support outreach initiatives and engagement with the fintech community. You communicate (verbal and written) ideas clearly and concisely, and have strong attention to detail. You have a demonstrated and keen interest in innovation and fintech applications, as well as enthusiasm for the OSC’s mandate and the role of OSC LaunchPad.
