OSC LaunchPad
1 (one) Year Contract Term
File #17-04
The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC or Commission) is the statutory body responsible for regulating Ontario’s capital markets in accordance with the mandate established in the provincial Securities Act and the Commodity Futures Act. The Commission’s mandate is to provide protection to investors from unfair, improper or fraudulent practices and to foster fair and efficient capital markets and confidence in capital markets.
OSC LaunchPad is a pilot initiative of the OSC. The goal of OSC LaunchPad is to modernize regulation to support financial technology (fintech) innovation. OSC LaunchPad consists of a core team, with an extended team made up of dedicated staff from each of the operational branches. OSC LaunchPad has three main focuses:
- Engage with the fintech community to better understand its needs and help it understand the regulatory landscape;
- Offer the opportunity for businesses to request direct support in navigating the requirements and potentially provide flexibility in how they meet their obligations; and
- Take learnings from working with innovative businesses and apply them to help modernize regulation for the benefit of similar businesses.
Summary:
OSC LaunchPad is currently hiring an individual for a 1 (one) year contract opportunity, as Senior Fintech Business Advisor, who has direct business experience in the fintech industry, and ideally operational experience in the securities or financial services industry. This is an excellent opportunity for professionals looking for challenging and innovative work in the securities regulatory environment. You will enhance your ability to apply securities law to the operations of market participants and gain valuable regulatory policy experience working alongside fellow professionals in an open and collegial environment.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Senior Fintech Business Advisor, and as a member of the core OSC LaunchPad team, you will draw upon your direct business experience in the fintech industry to review the proposed operations of innovative businesses seeking guidance and/or the opportunity to test their products, services and applications in a live environment. You will work closely with the core and extended team to resolve complex and novel issues using your strong judgement and analytical skills. You will prepare recommendations to senior and executive management at the Commission, engage with domestic and global regulators, including members of the Canadian Securities Administrators, and engage directly with members of the fintech community at both OSC and external events.
You Have:
As the ideal candidate, you are a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) in good standing and have a minimum of 8 years’ direct business experience in the fintech industry. Operational experience in the securities or financial services industry would be a strong asset. You have a demonstrated ability to make sound, practical business recommendations, while being flexible in your approach. This is complemented by your ability to build positive working relationships and engage with internal and external stakeholders. You communicate ideas clearly and concisely (verbally and in writing), including when delivering presentations, and have strong attention to detail. You can work both independently and as part of a group as needed.
