Web Designer - Exciting Longitudinal Research Project - The Human Project

We are seeking an experienced web designer with a proven track records that shows that they know how to design and build great websites from scratch and create the graphics to support those sites. The ideal candidate would also be capable of create compelling graphics for marketing and educational materials, and help define and innovate our organization’s look and brand. Key Duties and Job Responsibilities:

• Web Design & Management
  • Able to design and build compelling websites from scratch:
    • From conceptualization, wireframing, storyboards, and user and process flows, to engineering
  • Strong written communication skills to help write and edit website copy.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with:
    • Web security protocols
    • SEO
    • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for rapid prototyping
  • Oversee and manage the two website:
    • Ensure that both sites are continually up to date.
    • Manage any technical issues in an expeditious manner.
    • Determine new capabilities that may be needed for the websites, and be able to implement.
  • Stay up to date with the latest Web design trends, techniques, and technologies

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in: Computer Science, Web & Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or related creative/design field.
• Three (3) years of professional experience in web design and user experience
• Expansive portfolio of previous work with clear understanding of your role and contributions on each project.
• Ability to create a broad range of styles for different market and demographics while maintaining quality and consistency.
• Mastery of industry design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch or similar)
• Able to effectively manage multiple projects, competing demands, focus on key priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Can operate independently and remotely from a supervisor as needed.
• Experienced in hand sketching, rapid visualization of ideas.
• Experienced with working with engineers for production documentation, hand-off of assets, style guides, pixel perfect mockups.
• Understanding of modern web and mobile design trends.
• Experience building for WordPress, HTML/CSS, and other modern responsive web frameworks, and able to design and build a new website.

Preferred skills and/or experiences:

• Graphics & Visual Design
• Experience working in a startup environment.
• Experience designing for all demographics with accessibility in mind.
• Experience with character animation a plus.
• Experience with broader UX skills (prototyping, interaction design, development)
• Experience working with data visualizations.

Bonus Criteria:

• Strong motion design or animation skills.
• Spanish-language fluency (we are officially a bilingual organization)

Other Information

This position has the potential to be supported by a part-time web and graphic designer that would report to you following an initial probationary period.
