System Administrator

Shopkick is looking for System Administrator with a strong background in OO programming languages and real time experience managing and maintaining a large scale data center.

To be successful in this role you will thrive in a highly collaborative team environment, have significant experience scripting in Python, Ruby, or Bash, the ability to connect switches, a strong interest in building automated infrastructure, and the ability to work at kernel level.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Streamline our hardware and OS deployment process to work faster/better
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and OS issues in the datacenter
• Help plan for growth into multiple data-centers
• Write custom scripts and use tools like puppet and Jenkins to automate routine tasks
• Profile server/service loads and plan for future capacity requirements
• Visit the datacenter for some hands-on work

Desired Skills & Experience:

• 3+ years of experience installing/maintaining Linux servers in a production environment
• Some coding ability in an object oriented language (Java, C#, C++, Python, etc.)
• Strong understanding of commodity server hardware troubleshooting
• Familiarity with network equipment, troubleshooting, and capacity planning
• Excellent team player with strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Enthusiastic about collaborative problem solving
• Eagerness to solve challenging problems and a love of learning and trying new things
• BS in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
