The Role:

Sauce Labs Engineering is looking for a seasoned technical leader who can use their experience to build effective organizations, scalable processes, and mentor aspiring leadership talent to scale Sauce Labs. In the role of a Director of Engineering, in addition to managing a team, you will work closely strategically and cross-functionally to empower the broader organization to implement processes that will ultimately lead to faster delivery of a better product.

You know how to leverage Agile methodologies, culture, tools, practices to the benefits of the organization. The ideal candidate has spent 2+ years managing organizations of at least 10+ people, grooming talent into the best they can be, as well as prior experience cultivating a culture where everyone exhibits leadership behavior. These skills are paired with strong technical chops - backed by a track record of scaling complex, massively distributed, and highly available software services running in the cloud.

What You’ll Own:

• Major contribution to strategic planning, road-mapping, organizational development, and resourcing for your team to execute on their priorities
• Attracting, hiring, and retaining/developing top-notch engineering talent
• Day to day and long-term management and skills development for your team
• Representing your team to senior leadership and across other groups and teams within the company
• Setting standards and applying best practices to improve engineering processes and the delivery of quality products

Our Ideal Candidate Has:

• 8+ years of prior experience in shipping quality software as a top-notch engineer
• 2+ years as a proven leader, managing a team and/or scaling an organization with a high standard of excellence
• Proven ability to work through organizations and teams with very strong communication and collaboration skills
• Background in architecture and scaling of complex SaaS / PaaS systems working in conjunction with hardware
• Innate ability to connect the dots, communicate and iterate on team, business and larger company goals
• Knowledge of relevant technologies and stacks, including Python, Java, and Ruby

Bonus Points for:

• Experience managing or working with DevOps
• Knowledge of experimental technologies and experience with complex research projects
• Experience with mobile devices, platforms, and development
