POSITION SUMMARY

The Simons Foundation is seeking an experienced Back-End Engineer to make a direct and lasting impact on autism research. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with back-end and front-end engineers to create real-time, robust, high-quality, highly available and highly scalable distributed systems. These systems will form a crucial part of an online platform that will support the engagement of tens of thousands of families affected by autism, as well as researchers working to better understand autism.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop and maintain services for querying, analysis and display of phenotypic and genetic data, and workflow management process.
  • Operationalize real-time data synchronization and large-scale data-processing frameworks
  • Work collaboratively and closely with other back-end engineers, front-end engineers, study coordinators, project managers and data analysts.
  • Develop test frameworks and operational tools for the services created
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline with at least ten years of experience is required; a master's degree is preferred.

Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of Python
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux
  • In-depth knowledge of databases
  • High-quality distributed systems
  • RESTful API services
  • Message queues and background workers
  • High-volume data processing
